I had some friends over on Saturday........

.......for some BBQ. I smoked up 5 racks of baby backs, big pan of baked beans and a brisket. That was all done on the KBQ. I made some ABTs on the Traeger, used the gas grill as an oven to keep stuff warm and used the flat top to make some garlic butter Texas toast. I had a buddy of mine bring over a pot of his Brunswick stew and I made some red potato salad and mac & cheese. I made up some chipotle bbq sauce for the ribs and some sauce for the brisket, should anyone want sauce (no one touched it, lol).

I am afraid to say that I didn't take not one single picture and the main reason is that one of my friends challenged me to a "Rib-Off". He brought 2 racks, one wet, one dry rub only and I made 2 racks dry, 3 racks wet to go up against his efforts. It was fun!

Two of my guests are KCBS judges and they both told me that my brisket was the best they'd ever eaten! Talk about a big head! I was smiling like a fool when they told me that :P That shocked me to say the least. I even won the "Rib-Off" to boot, lol.

It was a great day, seeing some people I've not seen in years. When we get together, it's like no time has passed at all, we pick up right where we left off. It was a really enjoyable weekend!

Sorry for the lack of pictures, once the crowd arrives, the grub starts disappearing as fast as I can slice it up!

Good Grief!  What a pile of food!

Sounds a lot like the Cookout with Bremer in October...getting to see friends again.

It was a 17.xx pound packer that I trimmed up a good bit. I seasoned it with what I had left of my Marvelous Rubs Peppered Cow and then some kosher salt and coarse black pepper and garlic powder. I smoked it on the KBQ until it reached about 180° and then took it out and wrapped in peach butcher paper and returned to the smoker until it hit about 205°. I then wrapped that in foil, butcher paper and all, and put it in a towel lined cooler to rest for a couple of hours before slicing. I smoked it with a mixture of hickory and oak as I do everything else on the KBQ.

It wasn't even a Certified Black Angus brisket which is what I usually get at Restaurant Depot. All of the CAB briskets were smallish, around 13 pounds. Normally that's what I go for but when I cook for a lot of people, the bigger the better ;)

when you have good friends over to visit, it's always a good excuse to cook good stuff.  Your post sounds like you were very successful at both.

RG, there's nothing better than visiting with your friends and having great food with them. That is my favorite thing to do. Hope y'all can make it to Backyard Jack's Ranch in October so we can visit and share some great bbq with you.
