I Haven't Forgotten a Thing....
« Reply #-1 on: September 05, 2017, 04:46:03 PM »
....about smoking that is! After four months of being an oil-free vegan I still have it!
My bday was early last week and one of our daughters couldn't make it down last week for a party so both daughters conspired with their hubbies and Mrs H to have a vegan meal together this past weekend. I found out and while not opposed, I was truly looking forward to smoking something for them. They wanted pulled pork. So pulled pork it was. Started with a 7lb shoulder, coated her in molasses, and applied a liberal dose of MoHunka butt rub, a fine rub from a good friend from our site here. I was burning 100% hickory in the D. Boone, got a good smoke on at 175F for a couple hours and then cranked it up to 250F for the duration, until IT of 205F. But in between was a bit of R&R. This butt got no spritzing and no wrapping as everyone here loves their P.P. moist and crunchy! It did get a wrap at the end in foil and a towel and sat in the cooler for a couple hours. Then I took the gloves to it, all of 5 minutes, and it was the best P.P. at least that's what the kids said. Even one of our 8 m.o. granddaughters had a wee bit. Often times simpler is better. No pics of plated food but fun was had by one and all!
Ciao!

hikerman, that's the way a pork butt should be cooked and that's the way I wish I could cook it. It looks so relaxing.
