Ok, thanks to the awesome cooking ideas here. I have a lot of leftovers since it's just my daughter an I.
Looking for suggestions on a good machine to seal for a rainy day.
Thanks

What do you envision spending? And - what is the largest thing you will want to vac. seal? ( Not intended as a trick question...*BUT* ....GET A BIGGER ONE :D....as you will ALWAYS find something that you want to vac seal. Try a full packer brisket that you want to season, vac. seal and put int he fridge for a couple of days.... ;))
Food Saver is the number 1 brand for a few reasons. Number of models. Product support. Variety of bags, etc. But, if you want to explore...Look at the Weston 2300. ( And look thru Craigslist for the Cabela's CG-15... discontinued by Cabelas, but made by Weston - a GREAT sealer....more features than the Weston 2300)
And...there are "chamber sealers - that start near $1000 - but you can seal soups and other liquids without sucking them into the pump and ruining the vac sealer.
So the world...and the internet are your oyster. How deep you you want to dive for the pearl? ;D

Unfortunately per doc I strickly chicken or turkey these days. So a few breast or thighs maybe a chicken half if I do a batch of Cornell birds. As far as spending want something that will last and have capability to vacume my pickles in mason jars.
Thanks,
Robert

I would signup for the Food Saver e-mails. They run sales all of the time....some are pretty good. If you want portability an a simple dependable unit - the Gamesaver series of Food Savers are pretty good. I use one almost daily and only drag out the CG 15 when something like large whole boston butts, whole briskets, full racks of ribs need vaccum sealing.

I just ordered a Cabela CG15 from Cabelas's website (we don't have Cabela's here in CA). Saw a few on Craig's List & E-Bay but was concerned they might be older units that previous owners had problems with. I've been wanting a new & larger vacuum sealer for quite some time now, but shuddered at the thought of carrying an 80 pound chamber sealer from indoor storage to the outdoor grilling area every time I needed to save leftovers from the latest BBQ session, let alone all the times my wife wants to use a vacuum sealer for cheese, veggies, sauces, etc... The CG15 weighs only 15 pounds so it is very portable. THANKS for the recommendation.
Have a peaceful day . . . Dale Brose

Asome!
Glad I could be of some help Dale. Let us know how it works for you. I love my old CG 15...but you are right, it is a beast. And - the benefit of buying new from Cabela's is that anything you don't like...or does not work right...Cabela's will fix the situation. Their customer service is legendary.
