I celebrated a little too much it seems and invited the whole dart league and the bowling league and about half of the Royal Canadian Legion. So I have no idea who's coming but I sure hope they bring the food.

Quiet night at home I ended up getting 2 bottles of JD single barrel for Christmas so I'll have a little JD, some football, a little more JD, some food (haven't decided yet), a little more JD and then probably go to bed.

7 layer salad.
Blue cheese and bacon deviled eggs.
Molasse and pecan glazed brownies
Pralined pecan pumkin pie.

Nothing special...hamburgers on the grill made with fresh ground chuck and ground bison. Mixed in a little salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Burgers are shaped and waiting for dinner. My 6 year old wants tater tots, so we'll have some of them along with some steamed broccoli and assorted chips. Pretty tame evening...but I guess that what happens when there's a 4 and 6 year old in the house.

This was a smoked spiral cut ham. Glazed with 2 cups of smoked maple bourbon, 4 liters of Coke reduced to 1 cup, 3 tbs of red pepper flake, zest of 2 oranges, a pinch of salt, and 1/2 tsp. of cinnamon.

Took about 12 hours of simmering to reduce to a thick syrup. Like a Coke flavored molasses.

AND THEN....
The frozen fog hits...Like the finest mist that you can barely feel on your skin. And it is sticking to EVERYTHING...With temps in at 20F and dropping...everything is glazed with a fine layer of black ice.
SO...no guests can get up the mountain. The Interstates are a mess too....only 2 things a fella can do....
1. EAT....
2. DRINK...

I had another calling on New Years Eve and Randi did all the cooking. We had about a dozen friends over for lunch after church and enjoyed New England Fish Chowder, beef stew, and chicken stew along with lots of different artisan breads. Fantastic. Too cold for me to cook outside, anyway >:(

AWESOME !!!that ham, all of the food and beautiful decor. If I lived close and had a invite , I would put chains on my four wheel and climb that mountain and do some serious eatiing and drink with you. :thumbup:

Would have been nice to have the company....Our guests were not able to make it up the mountain. And there were cars everywhere - on and off the road...left behind by those who foolishly tried to climb the road turned into an uphill bobsled track....with no guardrails ;D

Dayum, we are going to be at 14 and I thought that was cold...but 6.......the South is frozen solid right now..............

Black ice is no bueno even for us seasoned cold weather drivers. But don't tell that to the knucklehead people with 4 wheel drive. They are invincible!

Try it up hill...and REALLY curvy road Pap. It did make for some entertainment tho....I sat out on the deck, beverage in hand and made bets with myself on who would make it up the hill, and how far. :D

Our last winter in the San Bernardino mountains had me fall in black ice six times and I almost went off the roads 3 times......I almost met my Maker the winter before going off the front side of the mountain in the fog at night....................not fun stuff..............

4x4, winter tires and studs. I would have made :( or came a week early ;D
