Howdy. Born, raised, and still living in Houston. Have always owned some sort of grill, but have never lived anywhere bigger than a townhouse, so usually it's been a small Weber or similar. Never had a smoker or serious pit for "big" cooks; I've never done anything besides steaks, chops, and burgers before.
My nephew planted the bug about trying something new. My townhouse has a small patio, so space is a factor, and I'm just getting my feet wet, so easy and predictable is better for me than flexible. After doing a little bit of research, I decided that the Pit Barrel Cooker might be a good choice for me.
So far, I'm really enjoying it. Like I said, it's my first cooker other than small charcoal or propane grills, so I don't really have anything to compare it to. But in the two weeks I've had it, I've done two racks of St. Louis ribs, two chickens, cedar plank salmon, and as of right now I'm 3 hrs into my first brisket (photo attached). The ribs, chicken, and salmon were all dee-lish, and while I have high hopes for the brisket, I don't really know what I'm doing so I won't be too disappointed if I screw it up. (I'll eat almost anything, so it'd have to be pretty terrible for me not to get some enjoyment out of it.)
