I cook on both kettle & barrel grills, I prefer barrel.
I'm recommending a Charbroil CB-940X
$263 @ HD.
Cooks a bunch & easy to smoke a bunch of butts on.

Home Depot online has a few new offset grill smokers in that price range. Smoke Hollow and River Grille look like pretty good products.  I like the Farmers grill and offset smoker $479.00. They have them in stock at one of the local stores. Nice and heavy. Lots of cooking surface.  Room for error if someone isn't a seasoned Griller as yourself.

But I would agree a Weber kettle can/will do about anything you put to it.  Weber has  a great warranty on them too.

I would go to Lowe's and get the $500 Char Broil four burner IR grill.  It's 20% off for Father's Day plus you get another 10% off if you have or have someone go with you with a military ID--active or retired.  I love my IR grills and will buy another one when the one I have bites the dust.  Dee

Game over, as of this afternoon.  After getting formal approval, I bought the 26" Weber One-Touch with the cover, a charcoal chimney, a set of tongs, a BBQ turner, and a grill brush for $410.82.  I still have about $90, so I will get a few pounds of charcoal to go along with it.

Thanks for all your input.  I am thinking about a surprise cook at our next club meeting.  SPAM!!  I have several flavors of Spam, so I thought I might cook some up and then slice into cubes and serve with toothpicks.  Maybe even throw a few MOINKS on the grill.

If you need to smoke a bunch this setup should work on a 26

I, too, think it would be hard to go wrong with a 26" Weber.  But, if all you need it for is burgers and dogs and you'd like more space to get them done quicker, look at this:
