New wet brining technique
« Reply #-1 on: November 14, 2014, 01:43:02 PM »
I'm going to try a new long-brine technique this Thanksgiving.

Figure I'll put Captain Morgan at the helm, set them asea for a few days, and let them get good and flavored up in the nice Oregon Ocean air!    ;D ;D

(These are our free range heritage breed turkeys, hanging out at the neighbor's house & getting their sea legs.)

For a moment I thought you had a boatload of vultures Kat!  Looks like a technique worth trying!

This is nothing new,  but this is how I brine more times than not!

Lord, we'd end up eating Tofu-rkey if we relied on James's butchering prowess.   I have a feeling he apologizes to the potatoes while he's mashing them!  :)

I like that glass of brine, Hiker!  :)   And yeah, they look VERY similar to the turkey vultures we have around here.   The Tom was perched up on top of the rabbit cages the other night when I went out to feed them (in the dark).   Didn't see him till I was right up next to him... Totally just about wet-brined my pants!

I think that is hysterical!

If you have never had the pleasure... (And I hope you have not...) know that Vultures only have 1 real defense should you consider trapping and grappling one.....( Please don't ask me how I know this....O.K. - yes...I was stupid...)

They empty their stomach contents on you. That's right...the vomit all over you. And it will amaze you how much they can hold. Not to mention if you are lucky as I was and grabbed one that had just come for an "All You Can Eat Buffet" of Carcass O' Sumpin' or Other....

I have to tell you- I will never forget that one.....tho I wish a I could. The bugger earned THAT shotgun blast I tell ya! ;D ::)
