Brats in a beer tub......did not turn out well.....but i know why LOL
« Reply #-1 on: September 04, 2016, 01:32:00 PM »
When I have been tailgating I do it my way every time......LOL & they are great. What I do is grill the Brats on the grill until done with grill marks. At the same time, I boil the onions & butter & beer in a pan. I use a beer like Bud or a dark beer. When done the Brats are tossed into the bath & served with rolls.

YESTERDAY.......I tried a few things different.

I added garlic (not a bad idea) & Sauerkraut (IMO a mistake) into the bath. I also boiled the brats first (big mistake).  I also used a heavy beer from Trader Joes…It was too strong of a flavor in my book.

It was OK but I will go back to the method that works best for me. I had read about a dozen recipes & wanted to try something with a twist so I combined ideas from a few in the same cook not a good idea.

I like kraut as an option but I don’t think it belongs in the bath.

We also had split dogs & chicken thighs with Sweet Baby Rays.

No Pappy I nuke them first until they split then boil then in two cans of Shlitz. Once most of the brats fats are floating at the top of the sauce pan you remove them from heat into an ice bath. Once cooled you put back in the microwave at 50% power(you don't want them overcooked) for 10 minutes. When they are crumbly and dry they are done. Then drizzle with some liquid smoke.

Sear mine first on the grill, then into the slow cooker with onions and beer overnight, allow to cool in the morning and remove fat and then re heat before serving  :)

Where do you find Schlitz in SoCal?  I haven't seen it here in about two years.  I've been trying to track some down.

Muebe always boils his brats first. And then finishes them in the microwave. Always comes out great. 8)

That's exactly the way my youngest son does his brats.

Personally, I simmer mine in dark beer for about 5 minutes & then throw them on an extremely hot grill for about 2 minutes.(or until they have really good grill marks)
