Spam to go the way of razor blades?
« Reply #-1 on: October 19, 2017, 09:38:23 PM »
So according to this, spam will be soon behind a plastic/glass case like razors. What is the world coming to when spam is a hot item? :) :)

Spam means "Spiced Ham" that's where the name comes from. I haven't eaten it in probably 30 years but it's not bad. Fried spam cooked in a pan over a sterno can on some white bread with a little mayo used to make a good sammich out in the woods when I was a kid!

Now is it so good that I would ever think "Oh my lord, I REALLY want some spam but alas I am broke as a joke, I think I'll just stick this spam down my pants and shuffle outta Wal Mart"? Nah, it ain't that good. Now maybe a brisket, but that'd be hard to hide in my pants I think :P

:o This will send shear panic through hurricane preppers!!!!!!!!!!
Every time we get a hurricane scare the SPAM is instantly gone off the market shelves... SPAM . Corned beef hash, water, beer, Milos Tea and gasoline to be exact.  With "Nate" WalMart sold out of SPAM in less than 1/2 a day... !
I don't know what these folks do with all this SPAM and corned beef hash. Do they eat it anyway? , are their cupboards stockpiled with it?  I mean this happened three times this year and Harvey wasn't even a threat to us...   What will they do if Spam isn't there anymore?  Oh, the horror!

We never had Spam growing up, but we would have this on a regular basis though:

I wasn't really a fan, but then again, I was a growing boy, my mom is really good cook, and I would chow down on anything that came out of her kitchen.

Based on all this talk, on my way home, I stopped at Wally World and picked up a couple of bricks.  I bought one with jalapenos, to have with some left over red beans and rice, the other with bacon to try with some eggs.

So I sliced up the the jalapeno loaf into six planks and they went into the CI along with the leftover rice to crisp up.  I did get a good crust on the Spam, and it smelled great while cooking.  Plated up and ready to go, I guess what surprised me the most was the texture.  Like I said, I got a good crust on them, but the insides were, for lack of better term, kinda mushy.  I think I was expecting something a little, chunkier, maybe?  Also, I was a little surprised at the overall mild flavor.  Sure, I got the peppers, but overall it did not come through as the "spiced ham" that some feel is the origination of the name.

I'm not saying that I wouldn't eat it again, but I did go for the Canadian Bacon with my eggs this morning ! ! !
