Camp chef mods
« Reply #-1 on: May 16, 2016, 01:35:45 AM »
Thought I would share some mods I did with my Camp chef DLX. I really like the DLX for price and function but I found, like most of the lower $$ smokers you have a wide temp swing and issues with leaking and most of the times a space issue. Well here is what I did

1) Replaced stock controller with Pellet pro PID controller. Eliminated the temp swings 100%. It now holds +/- 5 deg.

2) Added high temp gasket tape around door. Definitely helped w heat and smoke loss.

3) Added shelving (ordered from Camp chef) Allows me to triple my space in same grill

That's pretty much it. Has worked excellent for me so far and saved me approx $1,500 to $2,000 if I had to upgrade grills!

Alaje first let me say welcome and thanks for the post.I know it might help folks that already own the Camp chef. I bought one about a year ago and used it three times, sold it for what I paid. I was thinking of doing the mods you did, but I thought by the time I did the mods I could have bought a grill that Didn't need any mods. Since that experience I am not really sure a pellet grills.

nice mods. The Camp Chef Pellet Grill is a good performer at a fair price.
