What I heard about Green Mtn Grills.

A Trager sales rep and I were talking about Trager vs. GMG grills. He allowed that GMG's were OK, but he said that they had a problem with ash from the fire box coating the food when the fan started up, evidently as part of the heating cycle.

Absolutely not trying to start a Trager vs. GMG thing here, but does anyone with a GMG grill find they're getting ash up on their food?

As a long time user of the Green Mountain grills, I have not had any problem with the fan blowing ash on my food. In my opinion, these grills offer a lotta bang for the bucks.

A couple years ago GMG was having issues on a few models with soot and ash to covering food.  It was found to be a problem with their fan system and, as far as I am aware, has since been resolved.

No issues with my GMG DC and ash.  The cooker is about 4 years old I guess.

One should never grant veracity to commentary on a competitor's product from manufacturer other than that product. ;)

But - because I work for NO manufacturer - I will give you my unfettered opinion on BOTH product lines:

The both work.....and can produce a fine meal..... ;D

Having said that, I DO think think there are many better built products in the marketplace. At a greater cost. Traeger legitimately invented the pellet grill. But - they did not attempt to improve, or keep up with innovations on the basic pellet grill until very, very recently. And- Green Mtn. came along and made some improvements over the original Treager design.
*BUT BOTH* are:
1. Thinner metal as compared to some others.
2. Built in China - it that is important to you.
3. And....very competitively priced....with large user/support groups. :)

ALL choices are a form of "intra-cranial" compromise 8). There are always pros and cons in any choice.  ( e.g.- I want to drive a Ferrari...but I also want to live indoors...so I chose a Ford and a house :D :D :D)

Ive been using a GMG Jim Bowie for about a year - No soot issues at all. Food is great! I have had a few minor issues that I could work around - but GMG customer service as been second to none helping me resolve said issues. I would buy from them again an am considering thier little Davy Crockett for tailgate use.

Ash was a problem for a while but GMG took care of that. At the price points, Traeger and GMG and Pit Boss offer a bunch of bang for the buck and all three have great customer service.
