Pecan pellets and pork ribs
« Reply #-1 on: January 20, 2019, 12:09:50 PM »
So I'm kinda digging pork ribs with pecan pellets these days (Lumberjack Pecan Blend)... I think my tastes are changing, because in the past, I preferred bolder smoke profiles and tend to use a lot of hickory. The pecan is milder and even a little bit sweeter maybe??

I'm also getting away from the 3-2-1 method and leaving the ribs unwrapped for the whole cook.

So many ways to make good barbecue, it's good to mix it up a little!

True! SO many choices....I like combining Cherry with Pecan. I get a better smoke ring ( the Cherry wood has a higher concentration of a compound that creates the effect...) AND I think the aroma is out of this world.....

Exactly what I do. Not only in my pellet cookers but my charcoal smokers.

We're fortunate enough to have a store right next door to us that carries rubs and grilling pellets. I'll have to invest in some pecan pellets if he has them.

I am also a big fan of the Cherry/Pecan combo and have used it for many years with charcoal grills. I have made some up for my new pellet grill and will be trying them next cook.

Well I don't have any cherry pellets, but you'd better believe after all these suggestions, I'm a-gonna grab a bag this week.

Looking forward to trying the pecan cherry blend!

I try to always have a bag of cherry on hand.
I am a big fan of mixing pellet flavors & cherry seems to go well with most others.

Pecan is a type of hickory, so you get the hickory flavor, but in a little lighter form.   And another advantage of cherry that I love is the gorgeous red mahogany color it gives to meats.

I also like the Lumber Jack "Competition Blend" (also called the MHC blend).  It's a combo of Maple, Hickory & Cherry.  Since there's less hickory in the mix, it gives a very similar, slightly sweeter profile as a Pecan-Cherry blend.  It's my favorite mix for smoking sausages.
