22" OldSmokey grill/smoker

I just picked up a 22" OldSmokey charcoal grill/smoker
they happen to be made in Houston so I drove over and picked up a factory 2nd for a great price.
they cook like a 22" Weber kettle, but better
they have much more room with the same 22" diameter

the Weber has 6" of clearance under the lid and 8" of clearance to the grill surface
and 5" of clearance between the fire grate and the grill grate

the OldSmokey has 12" of lid clearance
and 8" of clearance between the fire grate and the grill
and the lid has almost vertical sides which gives you much more room under the hood

Found it. I want that old smokey base as a starter platform for my charcoal chimney. I believe that will work on my wood deck!

Great price on the Old Smokey Captain. I used to have the long legs on mine but I was scrubbing away one day on the cooking grates and she tipped over on me. I put the original legs back on. I just set in a chair next to it with a brewskie..........was the Old Smokey thermo pre-installed or did you add that yourself? Also, with the Weber Charcoal Chimney baskets do you have room still for a foil pan to set between em to catch the drippins??

Pappy - we were talking about charcoal chimney starters and Rick/nepas posted his propane starter chimney
very kewl

I ordered one too
I'm going to add a ceramic/teracotta water pan from a flower pot for a base for it to sit in

Thank you capt. I was just looking at those yesterday. Do you really think you could start that thing on a table? Trying to protect my composite deck. I love the concept of the thing.
