1st cook w/ the Green Ghost
« Reply #-1 on: March 22, 2013, 06:36:30 PM »
i wanted my 1st cook on the Green Ghost to be a little old fashion.  what's more old fashion than.......

Green Ghost came w/ a electric starter.

I've have never used one before.  always a chimney / newspaper kind of guy.  my dad and my FIL used a electric start whenever they started their charcoal.  watching it start up and smoke brought a little tear to my eyes.  i felt attached to the old guys in my life.

going w/ this set up for my 1st cook.

dumped charcoal down and getting ready for the show.

getting all warmed up.

ok, well i'm making plate burgers.  i use my wife's good plates for my forms.

chopped up 2 gloves and added some of this.

4 balls of hamburger on paper plates.  time for form burgers.

plate on burger and smash down.

tip of the day:  the cool thing about this is that all the burgers are the same thickness.  that's a little trick from me to you.  how many times do you cook burgers of different sizes and they all get done at different times.  not mine.  they all finish at the same time.

seasoned w/ some California joe's chipotle.

onto grill grates.  lets cook.

1st smoke off the Green Ghost.

looking good so far.

all done.  155° is good enough.

toasted up some buns.

sparky burger = bun, burger, bacon, avocado, lettuce and pace salsa spooned on.  oh ya, milk and apples too.

i am so happy.  a great 1st cook on the Green Ghost.

Nice job Sparky! Interesting twist using the charcoal holders outside the charcoal instead of holding the charcoal. Nice old school burgers and dogs cooked on an old school grill. Those Weber kettles have stood the test of time.

X2  ;D

Every now and then, when the world gets too fast and you need to slow down and get back to basics, you gotta fire up the Weber kettle and cook some burgers!

Thanks for the pics and the details of the cook...

I have a "regular, old" charcoal grill that I can use with this technique.  I'll bet there will be some good burgers done this way.  I have a set of weber charcoal holder things like those...just hadn't thought to use 'em like that.
