Something I came up with
« Reply #-1 on: February 08, 2012, 11:49:05 AM »
I picked up a stainless steel pizza pan to use as a heat deflector for indirect cooking.   The pan is the same size as the charcoal grate.  I bent it at about the 2/3 point.  Now it gives me a nice sized indirect grilling area and it holds the fire bricks in place.  Here's what it looks like.

I'm gonna try it out tonight.

That's a 22" Weber.  But one for the 26" Weber I got from you won't be far behind.  I wanted to test the theory on one grill before I went out and bought a stack of those pizza pans.

Bill, if the charcoal is off to one side why do you need a deflector shield?

The vent holes go over the food on the indirect side.  The heat and smoke travel in one direction causing a convection system.  Also, it stops the fat that drips off the food from gumming up the one touch system.
