What A Birthday!
« Reply #-1 on: April 12, 2012, 06:47:15 PM »
Got three wonderful gifts for my birthday, all of which are cooking related!
First got a Bluetooth speaker for listening to music. This tiny portable speaker will fill up a room!

Second I usually listen to pandora, but the # of commercials gets more every month, my wife got me a year subscription without adds ;D

Thirdly although I showed this to the Fam, I got shot down, well it showed up today.
A Chargriller Kamodo.
It's big will hold 6 racks BB ribs, or 6 chickens!
I'm leaving town tomorrow AM & it'll be Tuesday for first cook!

Almost as good as last birthday when I got this.

LA,  Congratulations on the birthday presents.  I know what one is...the cooker... but the bluetooth speaker and the pandora are completely unfamiliar to me.  They must be goood if you are so enthusiastic about them.  Dee

Happy birthday LA!

Dee many devices including newer cell phones have Bluetooth technology. This allows easy wireless connection of devices. So LA can connect his cell phone to the speakers to play music from it without wires.

Pandora is a free application you can install on your cell phone that will play music from any artist you choose. It will also play any similar music to that artist. Or you can even just type in "rock" or "classical" and it will play that music type. Pandora is also available for your computer also. It does play commercials or you can get a subscription to get rid of the commercials.

Happy B-day....Did you get the heat shield plate? That is needed for the low and slow cooks. Ours at work are still on backorder and it is making it hard to sell that baby.

Ron , I'm putting a grate down where the shield fits, & putting a cast iron griddle or a flower pot base on it as heat shield.
This thing apparently is selling well here , we have 5 local lowes they all had it, all local krogers had a similar one , my wife got the last one in the city! ( she HAD to tell me ;))

Can't go wrong with a Pork Butt for your first cook while you find out how it runs........

Does it have to be seasoned first??

In New Orleans for French Quarter Fest.
First cook Tuesday , I'm going to "season" for an hour, then cook some ribs.
The cooker has two layers filled with insulation, then a air space & a porceloin charcoal chamber.
The only part to wear out is the charcoal chamber.
, until I find out the replacement cost I'm going to use a charcoal basket, to minimize the wear on the cooking chamber

Hey LA, would Char-Griller offer a replacement charcoal chamber that you could pick up and stash for later??

Could you line the charcoal chamber with HD foil to help keep the ashes off of it...????

Smoke, I'm sure at some point the cooking chamber will be offered as a replacement part.
It's porceloin coated so very resistant to corrosion.
BUT under extreme heat like where the coals lie in direct contact with the porceloin the porcelain will develope micro crack and begin to corrode.
That's why a weber kettle will eventually burn through.
I've got a 3-4 different sized round baskets made for my vertical smokers, I'm sure one will fit.
