A Brisket and a Story
« Reply #-1 on: June 10, 2012, 08:07:14 AM »
Gonna tell you about a guy who calls himself Sweet Lou. He has made and sold his own rubs out of his house for years in San Bernardino County. You can find him every Wednesday night at a street fair in Monrovia sound asleep in a patio chair next to his truck with the bed all full of his rubs. You can either wake him up to make a purchase or you can just simply take what you want and toss the money in the truck. The owner of the company where I work has tried for years to get Lou to sell him his recipe's. Nope. Lou won't do it. He says when he goes the recipes go with him. That makes me sad. While he has quite a bit of nice rubs, one in particular is the best ever. I call it my "Desert Island" rub. If I had to only have one rub (and y'all know I got quite a bunch) this is the one that is going with me. You can grill and smoke with it. It was designed for large hunks of cow but it is equally as good on pork and yard-birds. For some reason I can't explain over the years, I have been calling it "Stagecoach" I don't know why I do that. Maybe it is the texture and color of this heavenly mixture....just cant figure why I do that.

What is it you may ask.......well here it is:
Sweet Lou's Roast Rub

You are more than welcome to call for a flyer or place an order!!

Now every spring Sweet Lou and his wife send out a little mailing flyer so you can send him a check and he will send out his spices but this year we didn't get one.
I called his place and his wife says they didn't send one out this year because Lou is in the hospital. She didn't say anything else about his condition so I am hoping it aint nothing too bad. She is still selling his rubs thankfully.

So in the spirit of BBQ, I am doing a brisket today using only Sweet Lou's Roast Rub...nothing else...and I am hoping Lou gets better and gets back home making his rubs. Yeah, I am being a tad bit selfish as well.......when I started grilling I used mostly his rubs..they are a big part of my past and hopefully will still be a big part of my future.............brisket picture time:

Ya ever notice whenever I do a briskie, "Sagebrush Smoochy" rides into town for the cook?  ;D

Kingsford...Peach wood......Sweet Lou's Roast Rub...lets see what happens........

Smoke has been kind enough to have given me some of Lou's rubs and I would highly recommend to anyone. It also saddens me to hear that Lou is in the hospital. I hope all is well and Lou will definitely be in my prayers tonight.

Beautiful Lou inspired brisket, Smoke.
