Lowes charcoal sale
« Reply #-1 on: June 29, 2016, 12:41:38 AM »
Just opened the Lowes add flyer earlier and saw that the 2 pack of Kingsford charcoal is going on sale for $9.88. No surprise, it's 4th of July, but they are also selling Stubbs for $5.99(regularly $9.99 here)! Limit 2 on the Kingsford but no mention of a limit on the Stubbs. I'm in there all the time so think it's time to stock up.

Here in South Florida Lowes is also offering Cowboy Charcoal 10.5-lb for $5.99.  Price is good but don't know about the quality of this brand.  Anyone use it before?

I know Cowboy is sold on the same site as Stubbs, it's part of their products. I've not tried it either, not sure how it burns

I use Cowboy charcoal - it works great.  Sometimes I will layer it on the bottom of my PBC charcoal basket, - about 1/2 of the total volume of charcoal I intend to use - then top off with Kingsford, or other briquettes. I get the briquettes lit and burning to the desired stage of ignition - which for me is a good amount of red showing with some white ash developing - when looking down on the large Weber charcoal chimney ) - then dump that on top of the unlit Cowboy lump - already place in the PBC basket.
I allow about 15 minutes with the barrel lid partially off - for the heat to build and temp to settle in -then load with chicken.

Lumps burns hotter  - and not quite as long as briquettes, so it seems to give me desired temp. range  for a longer period of time. Once the briquettes are burned down enough to begin producing as much heat - the lump begins to contribute more - and - it works great. I have done 2 full loads of chicken ( 8 whole chickens, split lengthwise into halves, and hung on the hooks in the PBC ) on 1 full basket of charcoal this way.
BBQ is neither verb or noun. It is an experience.

I have been wanting to try the STUBBS charcoal and at that price...will be getting a couple bags. STUBBS is my go to BBQ sauce, love the Sticky Sweet and Sweet Heat. I like this brand due to it being lower in sugar than some of the others.  If you like their BBQ sauce and have  Kroger...they have them 2/$5 through first week of Sept I believe the tag read in the store.
