Title: New MAK 1 problem.
Post by: Preich on May 18, 2017, 10:46:56 PM
Got my new MAK 1 star today and assembled and was excited for first cook. I started the burn in, set it to 450 degrees, and it was going ok but then stalled at 190, and has now dropped to 180. Auger turns on only briefly for short bursts. It has been running for over an hour. I emailed MAK but it is after hours and thought someone here might see and know something. It is now late so I will shut down unless it suddenly kicks in

My guess...2 wires are switched on the back of the pellet boss. Simple fix...and just a guess.

NO GUESSING ALLOWED ;)....( guessing leads to "fiddling". FIDDLING leads to burning up a grill...) ???

Ahhhh, man... your no fun! Half the enjoyment of pellet cooking is switching up wires from time to time, just to see what happens when you fire up the grill...lol!! Kill joy ;-)

be sure you press the set button (Star) after changing temps, otherwise it will default back to smoke.

Oh! I think I forgot to do that! But now I forget if I forgot (!). Having said that, though, the screen was reading 450 as the set point the whole time. U r saying it will still revert to smoke even if it says that?

It will display the 450 but the screen will be flashing not solid.
Basically everything you change on the controller the set button first makes it flash then arrows make the change then press the set button again to lock in the change.

I think it was flashing, so I bet that was it! But I don't trust my memory like I used to. Anyway I hope you are right and thx!

As Homer Simpson says, "D'oh!"  I had indeed forgotten to press star the second time. Grill now seems to be working perfectly!

Burned a few of them, then my teenage son inhaled the rest. I hear they tasted good! No pix so it never happened
