Hey Bill or Art what is the unused connection for?

You can hardwire the temperature sensor to terminal 15 (red strip) and 16 (blue strip).
Terminal 9 is blank/ not used.

Don't have a PTG, how did you get it to fit?

Ok so #9 does nothing.

The faceplate is a tad oversized for the PTG so I made a spacer. So the lid slips just behind it.

It sounds like you had some technical fun with this upgrade.

Would you mind sharing with us why you did this upgrade and what you are getting out of this that you did not get before?

Was the controller that you had broken?

Ed

No the other PID was working fine and I still have it. This was given to me by someone who was not going to use it. The stoker has a high and low fan speed so when at lower temps you can put the fan speed on low to get more smoke and use less pellets. It also has a Stoker interface for a Rock's Stoker although I don't have one. Also it has a automatic cool down mode after you shut it down.

Plus it looks cool! ;)

Nice job Mike.  Just goes to show you that where there's a will there's a way!!   8)  Have you fired it up yet?  The 2 speed fan feature would be cool to have.

I looked into the Savanna Stroker and was told that it would not fit in my PTG so I followed your Auber PID upgrade.  Like you said, the PID works fine.

What gets me is that it's not that hard and/or expensive to build a PID controller ... so why don't more manufacturers provide that as an option?  I know, I know ... it comes down to $$$$!!

Pete I have verified it works (auger turns and glow plug gets hot) but not fired it up yet. I just plugged my old numbers in from the other PID controller. I did omit the SSII fuse since I already have a front mounted one. And hardwired the thermocouple to the front mounted plug as before. And the red switch disconnects the power to the auger when off so I can use my method for starting and avoiding overshoots when I open the lid.

I also want to give props to Bill for putting out a controller like this. It comes completely wired to plug into your Traeger as a direct controller replacement so installation is very simple. And the instruction manual is very clear and complete. It even explains how a PID actually works so even I can understand it ;)

I am interested in seeing how the low/high speed fan switch works out with my PTG. I will start a new thread documenting my testing and results once I get started.
