Got my new Savannah Stoker v.3 Controller today!
« Reply #-1 on: February 05, 2015, 01:13:44 PM »
Feb 05 2015

I got my new Savannah Stoker PID controller for my Traeger 07E pellet smoker today. Over a year ago some of the LED’s were out on my original Traeger 180 controller and it was hard to read. I checked with Billy Merrill and he did not have any of the Savannah controllers available. I think the latest version had a glitch in the program the engineer would have to work out.

I kept checking back and got tired of waiting so I ordered one of the Ortech controllers, they made the Traeger controllers and theirs was supposed to be better. It was actually worse for me and had to do my cooking with my Maverick temperature probe.

One member here replaced his with a Blazin Grill works and liked it. I was about ready to buy one of those to use. Then thought I would check in with Billy and see if he had any ready. He said he just got a few of the newest version in to try out before regular production. He said he would sell my one at a better price if I wanted to try it out. I was happy to get it so I ordered it and it just came in today. Now all I need is a warm day to get it installed and start cooking with it.

If you need a new controller for your Traeger I would PM Billy and see if you can get on his list. His controller was designed for Traegers and is about $100 or more, cheaper than others I have seen.  He has a face book page and is a sponsor in here. He would be available for any help you might need.

Thanks Billy for the opportunity to try the new controller. I can’t wait to get it installed.

It's a Purdy thing too!

I have the V.2 for my portable Traeger. The two fan speeds on mine are manual and it has the stoker plug.

Looks like the fan speed control has been automated and stoker plug removed.

Look forward to hearing how it works for you Don.

The fan speed control is in the Operational Parameters and it now has three different speeds.
Rock's Stoker Connection is an option.

What I am getting from the manual is the v3 has an optional Interface Cable that connects to the controller like the RTD or Thermocouple. Going to hook one up tomorrow.

The connector to the Rock's BBQ Stoker was removed from the front as was a plug for the temp sensor.
1) too many people were not unplugging the sensor when not is use, then accidently hitting it which damaged the jack and sometimes the PCB.
2) same type damage happen to the 3 buttons on the front.
3) to make the unit move water resistant, all of the openings on the front were removed.

In the future, the mounting plate will have space for a jack to be located under the controller. The jack would be hardwired to the controller. Less than 5% of the owners of the controller utilize the interconnection with Rocks BBQ Stoker.
