IMPORTANT REMINDER - Attachments and Scheduled Forum Maintenance.
« Reply #-1 on: March 23, 2015, 12:08:58 PM »
Just a reminder about attachments & scheduled forum maintenance:

Since the forum started, almost 3 1/2 years ago, we have accumulated quite a large collection of attached photos.  To avoid additional storage fees and keep us within our storage limits, starting April 1, 2015  attachments more than six (6) months old will be deleted via the software at the beginning of each month.

► This ONLY affects the attached photos; the post itself will remain intact with the following tag:  [attachment deleted by admin]

► This will NOT affect photos that you store on a photo hosting site (such as PhotoBucket, Flikr, Picasa, etc.).

Here are your choices:

1)  If you prefer attaching photos, and don't mind that they will eventually be deleted,  NOT A PROBLEM!   You are more than welcome to continue attaching them;  just be aware that they will be auto-deleted from the server after six months.

2)  If you prefer to be in control of your photos so they stay in your posts indefinitely, then it's better to use a photo hosting site to upload your photos and add them to your post using the image tags: [IMG]Image_URL_Here [/IMG].

We were also asked to remind you that ALL attached photos for this forum are suppose to be food and/or cooking related!

PLEASE DO NOT use attachments for smileys or any other photos that are not food/cooking related!   Any attached pictures that are not food/cooking related can be deleted without notice by the site admins.

If you want to post non-food photos, including additional smileys, they must be stored on a hosting site such as PhotoBucket, Picasa, etc. and embedded.  This is per our agreement with the hosting site.

Thanks, and any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Sincerely,

The LTBBQ Team

Please ask the software team to forward dee's photos to me before deleting. I intend to seek a (very large) grant from the Smithsonian Institution to enshrine them in a permanent (though likely very small) exhibition tentatively titled "Southern food porn in the digital age - one man's legendary contribution."

Thank you for your assistance.

Pappy, looking at your recent posts, it looks like they are embedded (using the IMG codes), not attached (using "Attachments and other options").

So does embedded = attached?

No I don't believe so Pappy. If you are posting from photobucket, etc you are embedding the photos. If you are uploading from your computer you are
attaching the files. Correct me if I am wrong on this one Cliff.

Attachments are files that are moved or copied directly from your computer to LTBBQ.  When you coy and paste from your computer or tablet, or phone directly to the forum.

Embedded photos are those which you are storing on any hosting service. Flickr, Photobucket, Imgur...With an embedded file - you would go to your hosting service, and copy a link in some fashion - then put that link/url in your post.

I hope that does not make it sound more complicated.  :)

Mike and Tee are both correctt.  Let me try to simplify this.

Pictures are either Embedded,  OR they are Attached.

Attached: If you are adding your pictures by clicking "Attachments and other options," then they are attached and get uploaded directly to the forum's server where they are stored.

Attached photos look like a thumbnail image with a paper clip icon and filename underneath.

Embedded: If you are storing your photos somewhere else (PhotoBucket, Tapatalk, Picasa, Flickr, etc.) and inserting them into your post using the Image Tags ([IMG] [/IMG]) then the image code is embedded as a part of the post.

Pros/Cons:

Attached files are easy to upload and insert,  BUT they take up storage space on the forum's server and cause more bandwidth usage.

Insert (or embed) the image code, and the forum server never even sees the photo. Instead it instructs the viewer's browser to download it from your photo account. It keeps our costs down and makes the forum run faster.

Hope this makes sense!

Cliff

P.S. Pappy, Your photos are stored on Tapatalk's website, so they are embedded.

Y'all make my head hurt. I used to I guess attach pictures but I finally decided to follow the example of my hero Uncle Dee, a Truly Great American, and not post pictures. I have thought of starting back so now I will have to figure out how to embed them instead of attaching them.
