<<<<<<<<NEW MEMBER REJECTIONS PLEASE READ>>>>>>>>>
« Reply #-1 on: August 21, 2013, 09:05:42 PM »
I need to make all of you aware that there are attempts everyday to hack LTBBQ. Why? No idea - other than to obtain info. about members...?

Here is the point: Unless a new member applicant is willing to communicate - and explain a bit about who they are, where they are from, how they heard of LTBBQ and what they cook on -
THEY ARE NOT APPROVED.

LTBBQ is not an exclusive place. We want to include all folks with a legitimate interest in BBQ.  But we will make NO exception to the vetting process by which the applicant MUST respond to an e-mail that goes out to them requiring a response to a few questions.

There have been some that responded with some attitude. They are not approved. There have been some that will cannot or will not engage in any conversational exchange. They are not approved.

All of this is intended to do two things:

1. Provide a bit of an aptitude profile. If a person can't be friendly - and a little conversational when applying for membership - FOR PETE'S SAKE - WHY would that person want to join a community based on social skills as much as cooking skills???? :D :D :D :D

2. Give us a clear indication of whether the applicant is only wanting site access to generate spam or mine data. We have several layers of software that assist in this, but the final option is manual.

So it is of vital importance that you tell anyone that is applying that they can save themselves time, by letting us know who referred them - and we will verify that with you or you can PM Teesquare or Smokeasaurus and let them know to be on the lookout for a new person, and their name or screen name.

It is important that applicant know to sign up using their primary e-mail address and to check their spam filter if they have not heard back from us within 1 day of applying. It amazing how many folks find our request for response in their spam filter. All of this is an extra large sized pain in the butt. However- it is necessary to protect the site - and you...the members information.

Bloggers: LTBBQ is not a "farm site" for bloggers. We have had 3 prior members that were bloggers. Bloggers have an agenda. They need YOU to read about them and what they know, or presume to know. Ego? Money? Both? Don't care. LTBBQ exists for real BBQ folks to talk about BBQ and other outdoor cooking. We come here to have a peer to peer experience. WITHOUT the agendas that are often a part of "blogging".There are plenty of talking heads on TV and the Internet. We do have some folks here that have blogs - but they respect LTBBQ as a place to just be one of the guys. And that is the way we want to keep it -
