Air Fryer Fried Chicken a little help please
« Reply #-1 on: February 13, 2017, 10:44:19 AM »
The reason for us purchasing this air fryer is convenience and with that in mind I want to used packaged coating mix for southern fried chicken.

You can see how some of the mix blows off in the first couple of minutes.

Comes out tasty but close to roasted chicken not Southern Fried Chicken.

Problem is and where some help would be appreciated is we want more of a crust on the chicken pieces.

The couple videos i've seen on youtube show them beating an egg and using some of that on the chicken pieces for the coating to stick.

Art, did you spray some oil on the flour so it wouldn't blow off? That is what I do. Plus it helps the crisping.

What Mike said..the egg wash will give you more stick with your coatign and spraying before cooking will crisp it up and it won't blow so much   .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Thanks all and yep I did spray oil on the chicken pieces.

Second, the reason is for convenience and by convenience I mean not to have to deal with egg wash and stuff like that if possible.  If not well so be it. :)

If no other ideas are floating out there than I might have to go with less convenience and use what I have to use.
Again thanks all.

Thanks Pam and I agree 100% with that Pam as we have roasted a Cornish Hen and delicious, a 6# chicken and delicious and chicken pieces all delicious.

Thing is we are attempted to do some Southern Fried Chicken with that crunchy crisp coating without the mess  ;D but I guess Southern Fried Chicken must have an egg wash and that's the way it is.

Again thanks

Savannah..try the prebreaded stuff form Sam's or grocery..you might like that and it's frozen which helps keep the breading on it..Or freeze it some before you cook it after you bread it yourself.   .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Savannah...I woudl start about 10 -12 minutes per side..depending on how many pieces you add to the fryer. Don't overcrowd with breading.   .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Yep Pam that is pretty much the way I do it and all I was trying to do is cook chicken like Southern Fried Chicken with it's thick crunchy coating.
