So, just curious since google translate doesn't include Hawaiian . . . based on you age, you seem to be moving closer to "The Tortoise" as in Galápagos ! ! !

Is there an appreciable difference between the two in Hawaiian ?

You're making me work here. Luckily a glass of whisky is at hand.

"Turtle" usually means all species of the order Testudines. "Tortoise" normally refers to the slow-moving terrestrial species of that order.

Honu are (specifically) green sea turtles. When healthy we generally have a similar lifespan to you kānaka (humans), roughly 80-100 years.

We have some tortoises in Hawaii but, except for in the zoo, not the big mothers from Galápagos (whose lifespan is normally about twice those of Honu and kānaka - up to about 200 years).

So I still have a few years before I slow down, dry out, and have to file for a species change to extend my life.

Thanks for asking.

I do, basically, the same thing.  "Cept I hit mine in the Radarange for a few minutes to soften up the inside and shorten the overall cooking time.

My 2 grandsons look forward them whenever there's steak on the menu.

Thank you all. It was a great birthday and I learned stuff and enjoyed the day:

     1. I found out I'm still alive and that IR2dum speaks Hawaiian. I know this because his original post calls me "Ka Hanu" instead of "Ka Honu." In Hawaiian, Ka Honu is "the turtle" while Ka Hanu is "the breath" or "one who breathes." Appropriate for the day and good to know.

egg plant parm done right is an underrated meal.  Unfortunately it is hard to do it right! Looking good, better than me having a tofu Bahn Mi
