Blackstone first cook
« Reply #-1 on: May 05, 2017, 09:01:29 PM »
I finally assembled and seasoned my 28" Blackstone.  Started out with some grilled onions with garlic olive oil.  Easiest grilled onions I've ever made, and they tasted great.  Then did a few strips of bacon.  I need to turn the burner down next time as the bacon got too crispy too fast.  And finally, an 8oz cheeseburger made with a combination of ground chuck and bacon.  Everything was great...except the grease was not draining to the grease tray.  I had to coax it along.  I'm going to see what I can do to remedy the situation.  If I can't fix it, I'll try giving Blackstone a call.  And I will need to do the modification that Tom did as the grease was dripping down the leg.

Great first cook. I used some shims on the left side to help with grease flow. You would think after all these years Blackstone would have addressed it..............

We use the other cooker section for cooks like outdoor griddles. We have been working hard with keeping our main page more "streamlined"  :)

Great first cook.

If you are anything like me, it will soon become one of your favorite cookers.
I use mine at least once a week.

You will get a lot of fantastic grub off of it.

Another Blackstone convert!!!!   Check the griddle top both front to back and side to side with a level.  It is probably not flat on your deck.  I had to shim mine as well and if you move it, you will need to recheck.  I have a small torpedo level that I just keep with the bag that I bought for the top for transportation.

I bought a package of plastic shims at Menards, super glued two together, and placed them under each of the wheels.  Seemed to do the trick.  So far so good on the Blackstone.  I cooked some pancakes on Sunday morning but the griddle was too hot and I burnt the first batch.  Turned the temp down and everything was fine...except it cooled down too much and the last batch of pancakes was not very golden brown.  There is a bit of a learning curve but so far I'm enjoying it.

See if you can find a jug of Whirl Butter Oil locally.  It works great on a griddle top.

It is a blend of soybean oil and butter. Hard to find at retail around here, but one of the local Sam's Clubs has it and I picked up 2 gallons.  You can also find a "butter oil" or "grill prep" at any commercial restaurant supply house if you have one nearby.

Especially if you can find one at a heavy discount like the Walmart 28" models were recently.
