Photobucket alternative
« Reply #-1 on: July 14, 2017, 10:04:03 PM »
I'm sure we all, like I, have thousands of posts on various forums that now have broken links to photobucket.  A member on one of the other forums I frequent suggested Postimage.org as an alternative.  I tried it and it worked well.
http://postimages.org/

It seems straightforward and easy.  below is a test post.  After trying to upload the photos without resizing and it taking too long, (I have super slow internet plus we were streaming a movie on Netflix while trying), I used the sizing app to size them to 640 X 480 and they uploaded almost instantly. I didn't have to register but i probably will. I searched for a "postimage app" and couldn't find one, sure would be nice to upload right from my sizing app like I can with imgur.  I hope the images show up okay.  So far I like this as long as there are no error messages on various devices.  Let me know if the photos show up okay.

No way.  I have tried Google photos and the two other sites ppl have talked about.  I could not get any of them to work.

This one takes a little while to upload put at least it works for me.

lol, same problem I have, remembering what I did!  Have to choose "hotlink to forums" for the original size.

Whoa, now this is a game changer. Just discovered that PostImage does have an app, at least for Windows.  The link to install is at the top of their website.  quick install, all I had to do to post this photo was open the app, click on ''upload images", choose the image and go.  As it uploads a box opens up on the desktop, when done uploading the links are there to hotlink to forum with a copy button.  Can't get any easier than this.  Appears that this only works when doing one photo, as far as being able to just click copy in the popup.  can still upload multiple photos using the app but have to click on the link to the website that is in the popup and get the links there.

Good info Bob! With so many options available, Photobucket is circling the drain!

Another good alternative, thanks Bob, and thanks to many others eg Cliff, RG. Now it's decision's , decision's, and I have to learn to re-size.

y'all are welcome.  For sizing just google photo size app.  There are plenty of them for all kinds of devices.
Right now my fav is an app called "resize crop share", I'm running Windows 10, it's in the app store.
Makes it about as easy as it can get.

I think I may just try setting my camera to 800 X 600 when taking food porn pictures, they're primarily for posting on forums anyway.  Interested to see if it affects the quality, don't know much about digital photography.  That way I could upload direct to imgur or postimage from my camera.

I have Amazon prime, I have a few photos on there, never really explored creating links for posting.  Will have to check it out.  That would probably be the best long term solution free from concerns of having what happened with photobucket reoccur.  Can't see Amazon giving their prime customers the shaft like photobucket did.

It's a shame the PB did what they did and most of those beautiful bbq food porn photos on various forums are gone, but I'm kind of glad it did.  Lot's of better more modern sites out there that are a lot easier to use.

Also, keep in mind for resizing when uploading to postimage you can choose to resize upon upload.  800 X 600 works well for most forums.  the only reason I resize first is because my internet is so slow.

seems like I get two different screens depending if I upload just one photo or multiple photos.  This is what I get when uploading multiple photos.  I just figured out i don't need to highlight, right click and copy the links.  that little blue button to the right is a copy button!  Hope I can remember that.  Just click on it and paste in the post!   so much easier than photobucket.

Here's what I get after uploading just one photo:

either way, just click on the blue button next to hotlink to forums and paste in the forum
