Hello Kathy!  I cooked on Traegers for 17 years before becoming a MAK man in 2009. The difference is night and day.

Here's another NC welcome  :)

I hope you'll take your time and read up on the many posts about any different cookers here and how their owners use them.  The best one for you is out there but just because somebody else likes a particular cooker doesn't mean it is the best one for you.  We create a "halo effect" inadvertently and important things get overlooked.

I did get the MAK 2 star and really love it.  I hated hauling out the shop vac to clean the fire pot on the Traeger. Now we fight over cleaning it.  I called the Yoder guys and they told me I had to haul out over 30 lbs to clean the MAK.  Sure is a very light weight 30 some pounds to me.  I’m surprised at how little pellets I use even on our 12 hour pulled pork grilling sessions.  Very nice machine. Super well thought out. We’ve been using it through the entire winter several times a week.
