Smash Burgers on the Upside Down GrillGrates
« Reply #-1 on: July 26, 2017, 07:36:52 PM »
WOW! 2 firsts tonight. First time turning the grillgrates upside down and first smash burgers!

Rolled balls of plain hamburger meat. Recipes all called for a better grade that was not run through a grinder. But, for a first try, they were awesome. May investigate getting some better meat next time.

Turned the GrillGrates upside down. Ran on high. Got grates to about 550°. Put a pat of butter on the spot were I was going to cook the burger. Moved it around. (It was a fast little bugger).

Smashed ball with press for about 10 seconds. Moved to remaining patties.

Only cooked for a couple of minutes and flipped. Another couple of minutes and put american cheese on them. Closed the lid until cheese melted. Also had the rolls on for a little toast effect.

These burgers were awesome! Margo said that they were the best that she had ever eaten! She baked some fries for a side.

Easy and awesome. What could be better!

Beautiful burger Bob.
Once you have had a homemade smashburger, you don't want them anyother way.

I may consider leaving one side upside down Pappy. Always looking for something new!

That is how I leave my grill grates, half rails up, half flat top, especially in the summer when I try not to heat up the house. I can use the flat side with cast iron for anything I need to contain, like corn kernels, pappy's peas, or spinach.

great looking cook

Did you have any problems with the meat sticking into the holes on the Grill Grates when you pressed them out.

I was worried about that when I started Dave. I am happy to report that there was no sticking or leaking though the holes. And as Roget commented, I will probably have them this way from now on!
