Post by: Admin2 on December 28, 2011, 09:47:15 PM
We are looking for a picture to use on our Facebook page for Let's Talk BBQ - and one of YOU lucky folks will be the one to show off you pit!

It needs to be with it doing it's job, with a nice thin line of blue smoke wafting out of the stack.

Please post here if you have a pic, and e-mail it to: toomanywords101@yahoo.com  and teesquare will get them collated to post on the new Face Book page

There's a pic of my NBBD in the New Member Introductions section.  It has a nice wisp of blue smoke coming out of the stack.

Looks like you removed the pool sweeper and the grill brush.  It's like one of those games in magazines where you have to spot the differences between two pictures.  Oh, and you removed the back of the chair.

Hey, while you're at it, can you make my grass greener.  Preferably, in my actual back yard.

With the Traeger pellet hopper on the side. Gave up on LPG burners because of temp fluctuations.

Rick-
How did you determine the placement for the Treager portion of this smokehouse? Obviously, smoke, and heat rise - but, is there a formula you used to set the height of it? Is there a method to determine the internal volume that the pellet hopper and burner will serve before you need to supplement it for - say cranking up the heat if one wants to smoke a brisket or boston butts etc...?

Smoke it's a smokey joe gold.
Got idea from vertical weber Bullit forum.
I've made 3 & pretty much have got the build streamlined.
I'll try to find my instructions & post soon.
Problem for you is it only costs $70 or so , not expensive enough to put in your stable ;D

I hadn't cleaned out my firepot in a while, so the fire got snuffed out.   The MAK will try to relight no mater what, so it kept shoveling pellets in like Casey Jones..    It did eventually light - in the auger itself.   And promptly started burning pellets back up into the hopper..

When it did finally light the pile of pellets and got a whiff of oxygen, it 'popped' like a dust explosion. (or a Big Green Egg if you yank the lid open)    Sounded like a gunshot..

Rule #1.  Keep firepot clean.    ;D

This is the bottom slide out where all the electronics are housed.

Here you see the components. I'm installing new terminals, thermo couple switches and wiring.

Here i have the lower slide back in. You can see the coil at the bottom. The fan blows across the coil and up the back vents to each pan shelf.

Ok now with all the new items added its time to test it.

Using my AMZNS cold smoker to test the smoke flow.

It all works and is now fully operational.

The insides are all removable for easy cleaning.

Made some 1.5" diameter hardwood dowels for hanging.

You would have to do a CL search for a proofer or restaurant supply store. I did find this model CresCor online used for $1500

I got mine from my neighbor.

I had the proofer to 280* with no problems

Low temp was 66* high 280*

Properly placed i hung 85 lbs. I'm sure i could get more in if needed.

Why not take it apart - and show us what you did, where to get the parts and such? I would love to see a "build thread" section for projects of all kinds like this. What do you think about it?

Well figure why not repost my DCBE  (Double Chef smoker + Big Easy)  So here it is if anyone missed
Place a SRG chamber into a Double Chef smoker body, the water bowl holders fit perfect on to the bottom of the chamber
(http://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt326/TMBs/TBEcharcoal004.jpg)
Lite the charcoal and place a can to catch grease
(http://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt326/TMBs/1stSmokebuttinDCBE007.jpg)
Here is the chamber installed with the coals going
Here is the 1st smoke I tried rolling in it
(http://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt326/TMBs/TBEcharcoal010.jpg)

Here it is all put together and smoking
(http://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt326/TMBs/TBEcharcoal012.jpg)
A few hours later this is what a charcoal fired infrared butt looks like

Tommy,beautiful butt!
I'm pretty sure only the bottom of the pot get hot enough to generate infared.
Take the pot out, the double-chef produces great butts, and without the pot you can cook 5-6 at one time.

Your DCBE deserves it's own thread. I will ask to get that moved so that it can be found easier! We should be able to but it in the same section with LA's build.

Remember LA I'm looking for an infrared smoker that's really infrared and I think I found it.  I know the DC smoker works great but I had to do this mod if for nothing else my own learning of what works and what does just OK.  This hit it out of the park!   I hope to have one at the GA cookout this Sept
