New stadium lights
« Reply #-1 on: March 01, 2016, 08:02:46 AM »
I have floodlights mounted on 12 ft supports (a treated 2X 4X 12 ft board)
For years had outdoor halogen fixtures because of bulb life. But what a pain when the bulbs finally burned out ???
Had to unbolt the beams take the fixture apart to replace the bulbs & the waterproofing often didn't work & had to replace fixtures.
Well now with affordable LED replacement bulbs, I replaced the halogen fixtures with standard outdoor 2 bulb fixtures & mounted 2 LED standard bulbs.
For the cost outdoor lighting may be the best bang for your buck!
Makes cooking during short daylight seasons so much more pleasant !

I agree - LED lights are great for outdoor cooking.
Installed 'em in the cook shed here at Backyard Jack's and it makes a world of difference...especially at night.

LED have finally come down to an affordable price. And work well with dimmers. Fit standard sockets.

CFLs are horrible.

And since the Feds are slowly getting rid of regular bulbs it is nice we have an alternative.

Looks like plenty of light to me LA!

Those look great John. Good color rendition. I hope they last as long as predicted for the cost. I bought several...
I installed them a while back so I could see my chicken coop at night. I found some that are 90 watt equivalent spot lights.  This makes it much easier to assess and eliminate a threat quickly.
They are better than any lights I have had before. The color has been corrected now as opposed to the first LEDs that came out.   I put some flood versions and around the house as well.
At the office I have been replacing Florescent bulbs with LED's as needed. I am using the ones that have to be rewired so I can eliminate the ballast.  I found some that are 5000k "Natural Light" in color. They look pretty good.
If you own an office or commercial building or even just have a personal street light OEO.com now have large commercial  Sodium Vapor , Mercury and Metal Halide replacements that don't require rewiring.
I'm sure all these will be available at the box stores any minute.

Oh yea, Kerry just reminded me. The Home Depot branded LED's have a lifetime replacement warranty.

Looks great! I like the way you did it

I switched over to LED last year also. I have a side light coming down from our sunroom that covers the steps down to the grill area & part of the grill area. If I need more light I have an old spot light way up high that was there before the sunroom was built.  I spilt the lights one light to the grill area & the other to the other side of the sun room if I want that covered in-case I want to cook there also. I don't always want all that light so I can control it as I need it. That side for big parties needs the light also from time to time.

The only lights I have not switched over are the ones on the sunroom roof as I only use them for the outdoor movies & cleaning up for the patio after dinner. I use torches 90% of the time in the eating area along with a rope light or umbrella light. . The pool has its own light in the water & the sunroom lights if I need them to clean up at the end of the day.  I put battery LED's on the pool pump area just in-case I need to go back there at night I also use battery lights to light my way with the projection screen & cart as I put it away after a movie.
