I do not own the turkey hanger. I just have the basic hooks. I have a 17 pound turkey and was just wondering your opinions. Do I hang it or just put on grate ?

You can use multiple hooks. Or you could cook it on the grate.  I would be tempted to use 2 hooks "chain-linked" together lengthwise...and split the turkey in half - lengthwise. Then I would hang the turkey much like doing chicken splits.

Noah does have a video on the PBC site that shows how to hang the turkey with hooks. I have tried it, a little tricky. I would just set it on the grate and take it easy.

Thanks guys. I seen the video where he uses 4 hooks. It just got me wondering if their would be any noticeable difference if I were to just cook on the grate. It seems like a pain and I'm not sure if it's worth it.

I honestly cook a lot of items on the grate, there is very little I hang other than ribs.

Either hanging or on the grate, you will get the same great tasting grub from the grease fog. Promise. :)

Sorry if I'm being a pain now. I'll use the grate but now I wonder if I should do it breast side up or down or a combination of both. Decisions decisions

I would think that a 17 pounder's height would not fit on the grate (too high to close the lid?).  Last year I did mine with 4 hooks.  It was a bit of a pain but came out nice.  This year I am going to spatchcock my 14 pounder on the grate so hopefully it will come out delicious as well.  Happy Thanksgiving everyone

Well........ my turkey fell off the hooks. It was cooking so nicely too. Smelled amazing. I was still able so somewhat eat some of it :(.        Getting out a huge bird burning in the coals was quite challenging. I ended up using a large bathroom towel and held my breath leaned in and grabbed it. On thanksgiving night I ordere the turkey hanger.
