Heather is the head of the meat dept of my local indendent grocery.
They had Angus ribeyes in family pack for $7.99/ lb.
Heather cuts me 4 that weigh 18-20oz / steak.
I mentioned to her that friends out of steak loved a Tri- Tip but I'd never seen one locally.
She asked do you want one ? I ll cut you one!
5 min later have my Tri-Tip. Cooking for supper tonite!

I have a Trip-Tip in a marinade using my new rub formula for grilled meats... Looking forward to your pics LA!

We will all love Heather when we see your tri-tip pics......................ya guys be careful not to over-cook........they make great door stops when they are cooked medium and up......... :o......IMHO..I yank em at 125 because they will keep on cookin.......that is a lean cut of meat...................no forgiving fat to help ya out.....................nuff said...................

Check my Tri Tip thread smoke...I trimmed this one ...but it is in an oil/vinegar/rub marinade for a few hours...and - can "baste" or mop as needed...Help me "smokey-juan-can-open-ey" ( cheap BBQ/Star Wars reference ) you are my only hope!....
