Home made Jan's I use a lot,

Jan's Dry Rub
From KyNola

My friend has a commercial BBQ restaurant and gave me some of his rub. He would not however give me his recipe so I put my wife on a mission to find something very similar on the internet and then we would tweak it to match his. Here is the best effort. It only has 14 ingredients and makes a bunch. Thought you might like to take a look.

Ingredients:
1 cup + 4 tbsp sugar
1/4 cup Lawry’s seasoned salt
1/4 cup garlic salt
1/4 cup + 1 1/2 tsp celery salt
1/4 cup onion salt
1/2 cup paprika
3 Tbsp chili powder
2 Tbsp black pepper
1 Tbsp lemon pepper
2 tsp celery seed
2 tsp dry ground sage
1 tsp dry mustard
1/2 tsp dry ground thyme
1/2 tsp cayenne
Directions:
Place all ingredients in a large bowl and mix until well blended. Store in a cool area away from light in air tight jar or sealable plastic bag.
Hope you enjoy.
KyNola

Comment by Habanero Smoker: I applied this rub to ribs, and everyone enjoyed them. For best results give the ribs a liberal application of the rub. If you like more heat increase the cayenne pepper.

And this fella makes some nice rubs

My wife "cleaned out" my spice and rub cabinet a few months ago. SO, I have to be careful trying to answer these types of questions, or I'll be in trouble again.

For most things (including veggies) I like Way Out West and M-3 from Savor Spices. My oldest daughter prefers Mo Rockin' Chicken. I also like Fine Swine and Bovine.

Then, I start to slide down that slippery slope... I do like Lawry's Seasoned Salt, and Old Bay for fish and chowders. And then.... well you get it...

So, when making a steak or burger on a typical night I am trying to use fresh ground pepper (but I do sneak some Grains of Paradise in there...) and kosher salt. I like to use a finishing salt and maybe a compound butter on my steak.

Yeah... I am doomed...

I absolutely love the PBC B&G rub on all things beef. For pork, I make my own rub which is a recipe I got from a local BBQ restaurant. Lamb I use Lawry's seasoned salt from the supermarket.

I'd like The Smoke to abstain from chiming in......he has a rub problem.

I like John Henry rubs. My family likes sweet rubs. And Savor Spices Mo Rockin chicken. It is mixed by elves living in a tree, and it contains dehydrated unicorn tears.

Oh yeah John Henry....

Dang, I need to put a filter on here to keep the rub / spice discussions away from me... I am going to be in BIG trouble!

My all time favorite for chicken & pork is Penzey's Galena St. rub, one of late is Blues Hog Rub. For beef it might be Savor's Top Secret. Favorite all purpose seasoning is Penzey's sandwich sprinkle. Smokin Don
