PBC Grate Issues
« Reply #-1 on: August 24, 2015, 03:19:46 PM »
Last week I went to cook some chicken breasts on the PBC and when I laid the grate down I noticed one of pieces of metal that protrudes from the inside of the barrel had fallen off somehow. The grate will still lay on just the 3 remaining but it is a little less stable; I wouldn't want to lay something down on just that side.  Has anybody experienced this themselves?  What did you do about fixing it?

I haven't had that problem, but my first thought would be to drill a small hole and run a bolt and nut to act as a brace to replace the missing part

Sounds like a bad spot weld. Give the folks at PBC a call to see what they reccomend.
I'm curious,  is this a powder-coat model or the new porcelain coated edition?

I am also curious as to what model you have. Give Noah and Amber a call, they will make it right.

It's a Gen 1 Powder Coat model.  It may mean it's time to upgrade!

I will call them and report back.

I am pretty sure there are only 3 brackets on the PBC. I know my porcelain coated has three and found this photo of the PBC classic:

Interesting...Maybe you are right.  However, the grate feels very unstable now on the brackets.  Maybe there has beensome serious expansion at the belly of the barrel?

That happened to me also.  I drilled a whole and bolted it back on.  Have not had any issues since.  Also no effect on my cooking times or temp.  Hope that helps, mine is also a gen 1 with lots of miles.

My new PBC only has 3 studs for the grate to sit on, but it's stable.
