Well, the first annual Ohio Buckeye Gathering is only two weeks away and I am getting excited. It looks like we're going to have a decent turnout, especially since this is the first one!
If you have never attended a member gathering, please join us. It really is like meeting up with old friends to sit, chat, cook and eat some great food. Not to mention the area is absolutely beautiful!

Room Rate Bonus: Everyone staying more than one night will qualify for a discount when you check in!
Facilities/Ammenities:
● Refrigeration - I do NOT remember there being refrigerators in the rooms, so be sure to bring a cooler! I will be bringing three coolers and extra ice. Two of them are large, so I will have some extra storage space if needed.
● Coffee - The Inn serves free coffee in the mornings. I am NOT a huge coffee drinker, so I will NOT be bringing a Coffee Maker. I will pickup some instant coffee, or feel free to bring a coffee maker for your room.
● Power/Electricity - The Inn has assured me that they can run a power cord to the pavilion if we need it. I will also be bringing a 600 watt pure sine wave power inverter as a backup.
● Phone/WiFi Coverage - Verizon, without a doubt, has very good coverage there. Other carriers are spotty. There will be plenty of us there with Verizon if someone should need to make a call. At least three of us will have WiFi capability as well, if needed.
● Events & Area Attractions - There is a ton of stuff for anyone who wants to do a bit of sight-seeing.
> We will be on the edge of Amish Country (lots of restaurants, cheese houses, craft places, etc.).
> The nearby Wolf Creek-Pine Run Grist Mill will be having an International Wine festival on the 6th.
> The nearby Mohican State Park has a covered bridge and a great overlook area where you can view the Mohican Clear Fork Gorge.
> WWII Memorial Shrine.
> Malabar Farm State Park is also nearby. This was the home of Author & Conservationist Louis Bromfield. This is also where Lauren Bacall & Humphrey Bogart were married in secret.

In addition to what I posted above, I will also be bringing:
- 2 Grills: The MAK and the Weber/Stoven combo
- 2-Burner 60,000 BTU Camp Stove
- Various cast iron cookware and utensils. But feel free to bring your own if you like.

We plan to bring my 12 volt Davy Crockett pellet cooker and a charcoal powered Cobb Grill with all the accessories. Will also have my Coleman camp stove with us along with a camping type coffee pot. Will also bring 3 folding tables and other camping supplies.
Looking forward to seeing everyone and will arrive about noon on Friday.

It was a mostly sunny day today but a little windy. It felt good with the 80+ weather. I smoked 3 pounds of pistachios to take to the Ohio gathering June 5th and 6th I did them right after lunch.
I mixed up 3 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 of Tobasco green sauce and 1 of Cholula hot sauce and poured over them; stirred to coat all well. I then shook on some Penzey’s sandwich sprinkle, a garlic herb salt.
I had my Traeger heated to 180 deg. about 200 deg. grill level. They went in my Weber Grill pan and were done in an hour and a half. I had to sample a good handful and was pretty good. After they cooled I vacuum sealed to keep fresh.

Donna, Maci and I will be there sometime Thursday. Only 2 hour drive for us so will see ya when we cya. Am bringing smoked cheeses and an ICE MACHINE & water and small Keurig. Gotta have my coffee. I will be making maple glazed bacon donuts and sausage gravy in the mornings for my boys. They seem to like it, and whatever else sounds good. Getting excited to be there already, so is Donna, to see her old friends again. She has more stories. Cya next Thursday. Pam .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Smoked Cajun crackers, cheese, smoked pistachios, old fashioned bung bologna, enough for snack, cold or fried sandwiches and some Vidalia onions. 2 quarts of Kimchi, great on brats. I will also bring some good Kah's thick sliced bacon. He won 1st place from the Ohio Meat Packers Assc. for the bacon last year. I may need some help frying up bacon. See you all there! Don

Looks to be a great place for a gathering. We were hoping to be able to come and meet our "unmet" friends but unfortunately I have to work Saturdays thru the end of July. :-[

Rules for drinking in public should be applicable. As long as everyone exercises common sense, we should be fine. There are a few taverns in the area, if nothing else.

Don, I know of at least 13 who are coming, not counting my two kids who should be able to make it for at least part of the weekend. Oh yeah... plus Barney! You'll love Barney.

Busy day today, I finished mowing my yard and watered flowers. The rest of the afternoon I was getting my stuff around to take to the gathering tomorrow. I think Cliff and Pam are already there.
I smoked a batch of my Cajun crackers to take along. I had already done up 3 pounds of pistachios and vacuum sealed. Not being in the best of shape I won’t be able to do much cooking so I am taking easy things to fix; some of my Kimchi, bacon, snack sticks, cheese and I am prepared to feed them a bunch of baloney!
Chris Kah made me up a small bung of old fashioned bologna. It was 9 pounds and I had to cut about a pound off to fit my cooler. I hope they are prepared to eat baloney!

We are all loaded up and will be leaving in a couple of hours at about 5:00am for our 315 mile trip to the gathering. Should get in around 11:00-11-30am if all goes well.

O.K....THis is broadcast from the Mobile World Headquarters of LTBBQ at 74 m.ph. ( and whatever speed those 'lil electron fellers can fly ;D)
After WAYYYY to much awesome food....we have waddled back to the truck, and pointing it South....
For those who missed it - you really should plan for next year. It will be be great. The area that Cliff lined up is incredibly beautiful, with the greenest big tree covered hills and miles of the nicest farmlands in between, a LOT of nearby attractions, natural beauty, shopping, history, FOOD...( the Amish buffet breakfast was the best I have ever had ANYWHERE! ) etc....Just can't say enough about how nice being in Amish Ohio has been. And the entire area was so clean - I thought I was in Germany again!!!

It was a great time. Weather was perfect. 70's during the day. No rain - and no bugs!!! And the food.....just wait for some pictures. ;)

The past week-end seven of LTBBQ members, family and friends met for a gathering to eat some great BBQ and share friendship. It was the most fun I have had lately. For some of us it was a first chance to get to know each other after conversing for several years on the LTBBQ forum.
Cliff (TenthunteR) planned and organized it plus provided cooking equipment and prepared a lot of the food. He made a good choice on the site, Mohican River Inn, Loudonville, Ohio. We had clean and comfortable rooms and a covered patio for our dining. The weather was great all week-end.
Attending was Cliff, his wife Tammy and two children, Pam, her g-granddaughter and her best friend Donna, Old Dave, his wife Jan and Barney, Art (ACW3), Tim (teesquare), Mike (High on Smoke), Myself (Smokin Don) and wife Nancy. Cliff’s friend Jason and son came Friday evening to join in. I think a couple members who planned to come had to cancel out.
We arrived a little late Friday afternoon, got lost but not going into that! All were there but Art, Tim from N. Carolina and Mike who came the farthest from Savannah, Georgia; he met Art and Tim to ride with them. Some good food was ready, bacon and cheese wrapped sausage chunks done by Old Dave on his cobb tabletop charcoal grill. Were they ever good. He also had some pork tenderloin done on his GM pellet grill for sandwiches with some raspberry sauce, delicious!
The southern boys finally made it, later Cliff had some pulled pork, mac and cheese and coleslaw. He heated the pork and cheese on his new Mak 1 Star General, he got a lot of help from his wife Tammy too! We all had a great time talking and some of us had a little cheer from the back of Arts truck! The motel owners came and lit a big bonfire for us to enjoy. I think it was about 10 pm when we all retired to our rooms.
On Saturday morning about half of the group went for a buffet breakfast 40 miles away. The rest of us stayed behind and had some breakfast, donuts, fruit and coffee from what the motel put out every morning. I had a good time chatting with Old Dave and wife Jan. I knew Pam and got to know her friend Donna, her gg daughter Maci had a great time running around and she picked up on my needing a cane I was always leaving and would show up with it and say “here Don”, she was my cane bearer!
Sometime after lunch Dave put on two racks of BBRibs and a meatloaf with help from his wife Jan and Barney kept check on them. Barney is an 8 yr. old miniature black and brown dachshund and well behaved; he had his own lawn chair. He was used to going with Dave and Jan to competition BBQ. I learned some from Dave watching him do his ribs. He and wife Jan put a lot of love and hard work cooking the week-end!
Cliff, Tammy and my wife got back from breakfast and a visit to a cheese place. Art, Tim and Mike did some more sightseeing. I put out a cheese plate, Cajun crackers, smoked pistachios and some summer sausage Sandman had made and sent along.
Art, Tim and Mike got back and we ate sometime after 5 pm. Dave’s ribs and meatloaf was done and Donna had made a great potato casserole dish. Cliff made some great Jerk chicken for a second entrée; done on his Weber Kettle with Stoven pellet adapter. Dave’s ribs were perfect and meatloaf was good. Art heated up some of his delicious burnt ends on the Mak. I could have made a meal of those! Donna made a Mayo chocolate cake for dessert. Way too much food, but sure was good! We all sat around and chatted enjoying another bonfire and retired about 9:30. I didn’t think anyone could out talk my wife but Tim did!
We planned a big breakfast Sunday AM before all left for home. Cliff put a ham shank on the Mak in the middle of the night. He made a batch of his good biscuits and provided his sausage for Pam to make her good sausage and gravy. Pam also made her delicious fried donuts with maple glaze then dipped in bacon! I finally got to cook some; fried up 3 ½ to 4 pounds of bacon, some of Kah’s jowl bacon and some pepper bacon. I fried up some of Sandman’s honey bacon he had sent along then scrambled a dozen eggs. That was one good breakfast! We all cleaned up and got packed to head home by 10:00.
They wouldn’t let me feed them any baloney so I divided up the old fashioned bung bologna for all to take home along with some brats and snack sticks. It went by too fast but I was tired out and ready to head home. Thanks everyone for a great time!!
Sorry for the lack of photos and poor quality, I thought I took more. I never got a shot of Pam, except her back side! Mike was always behind his camera so didn’t get many of him. We never got a group shot and was sorry about that. I hope the others will post some better photos.

I have to tell you - this is the largest collection of old mill stones I had seen. Tells you a lot about the history of the area - huh? They used them as decor at the local bank.
We stopped across the street in this little WV town for lunch. And...they had no toothpicks in the restaurant. I am not saying anything other than...WV - no toothpicks.... ;) ;D

It was a beautiful location. I had not traveled this part of Ohio in any detail. Interstates...sure - but this was anything but an interstate tip once we got into Ohio.

Man, I wish I could have been there, but a little horse race in Elmont, NY got in the way. And I also remembered that Jan told me that she would kill me the next time she saw me if her likeness showed up on the last Fall Gathering video. Glad y'all had a great time. Those are some beautiful pictures and a beautiful setting for a great weekend gathering. And some great food, too.

Well..all I can say is that we had a fabulous time. Me, Donna and my Great grand-daughter Maci. We ate and partied and ate and ate, everything was absolutely wonderful. I didn't even get any pics, but everyone had everything covered. This reunion was a great as the other gatherings. Mr & Mrs. Smoking Don are so gracious and Old Dave, Jan and Barney are just the absolute best. Cliff is his usual ornery self and his wife is so nice and his kids too. Art or Heart is what Maci calls him, Tee and Mike are their usual fun entertaining selves. A good time was had by all. Gonna do it again, accomodations were just fine for us, The owners of the Mohican River Inn were so kind and helpful and invited us back. The Food, well ya just had to be there. Small group but we are all better friends now, and that is a good thing. I love everyone there. Where else can you meet strangers and become such friends. Thanks for the memories everyone. I'm glad you guys all got some great pics to post! I was busy and forgot to take any.
Like everyone else said, it was such a great time.
I really enjoyed getting to see everyone again and got to finally meet Donna, Smokin' Don and his lovely wife, Nancy.
My friend Jason got to come and spend Friday evening with us and picked up his pellets (which Art brought from NC). Jason could not get enough of Old Dave's Pork shots.
One of the highlights for me was watching Maci. She is such a precious little one, so full of curiosity and energy. She attached herself to my wife, Tammy, like a little shadow. At one point Tammy was eating some sugar snap peas, and Maci graciously handed Tammy a stone she'd picked up, and took Tammy's sugar snap pea! I guess it seemed like a fair trade to her! :D
All the food was off the charts good, and there was plenty of it. Art brought some Cheerwine glazed Pork burnt ends that were incredible. Dave cooked lots of food, including some of his ribs, which promptly disappeared. For breakfast Sunday morning, Don cooked up some Jowl & pepper Bacon while Pam made her LTBBQ famous Maple Bacon Donuts. Then she turned some of my homemade sausage into luscious gravy while I baked up some homemade buttermilk biscuits.
Yes, I was good, I paced myself and also ate plenty of veggies & some salad too!
As usual, Mike took lots, and lots of pictures (so did Tim this time), and Art provided libations for anyone who wanted to partake. He brought this strawberry vodka he made that was really good (too good if you weren't careful!).
I want to thank everyone who attended. It was a memorable weekend, and you guys made all the prep and legwork worthwhile!
Hopefully we'll see you guys all back next year!

What a great weekend....got to see some old friends, made some new friends, tasted a whole bunch of great food, and the facility was wonderful. Cliff did a great job hosting this gathering and I sure hope he does it again next year. The area is beautiful and there are a ton of things to do pretty close to the resort.
