My happy place is in cape cod ma. It hasn't changed since I was a kid. I love watching the kids play in the water and at night for dinner I get a lobster roll or fried whole belly clams. Nothing like it anywhere else .

I agree but I will had Block Island on the hook with a wind driven steak on the Grill & beer in the cooler

I never did Rhode Island or block island. A guy I work with loves it and goes every year. He always raves about the clam cakes and some kind of local hot dog. I'm sure I'm spelling it wrong but saugies . Or at least that what it sounds like. He also says he buys lobster straight from the fisherman at the docks. Sounds like a awesome place. He's never done block island but I'm sure that's amazing. Imagine living year round on block island ? It's gotta feel like another world out their

Charcuterie: Ham, Bacon, Sausage, etc. / Re: Bacon is ready

I would think the water would make a difference if it has any taste or smell to it.
Some pork has an "off"  taste to it though,  My best description would be Metallic.  I found by buying from different sources you can get away from this.
A friend that raises hogs told me he stopped feeding them a certain brand of feed because it caused this taste in his stock. He changed to a non GMO feed and supplements it with corn. The issue has been corrected.

I have not tired making bacon except for a small piece and it looks like it might be time to try.  That sure looks good.  Thanks for sharing the info.

Other cookers / Re: Pulled Pork in the Instant Pot
« Last post by Pam Gould on Today at 12:30:13 PM »
We had pot roast tonight in the "instant pot"... Whatever brand... With potatoes, carrots, and onions.  Yeah, kinda boring, but I'm just a backyard jack.

My GF just did the same thing last week with her new Presto (she calls it her "InstaPot").  It came out pretty good.  Certainly as good as what would come out of a slow cooker.

She also cooked some ribs for her mom, she lives in a small town about an hour away and my GF visits her pretty much every weekend.  But she said I probably wouldn't like them because they weren't done on the grill.

For me, if I can cook it on a grill, that's where I want to cook it.  But, I also know that there are a myriad of other ways to "skin a cat."  For my her, well, it's gotten her back into cooking.  She did some chicken & dumplings (w/a side of pinto beans) Wednesday and is doing a little Country Style Steak tonight.

My biggest problem is remembering not to offer her advice on how to cook, even when she asks ! ! !
