SD - great write-up and pictures. Wish I could have been there, but your account makes it very "live." Thank you!

Yes great pics and story Don! We truly missed a great time with good food and wonderful folks! Maybe next year....
I'm quite certain judging from Don's dialogue that I'm 10 pounds lighter by not being in attendance! :D

Since we already have pictures in this thread - I will add some too!   PART 1

I have to tell you - this is the largest collection of old mill stones I had seen. Tells you a lot about the history of the area - huh? They used them as decor at the local bank.
We stopped across the street in this little WV town for lunch. And...they had no toothpicks in the restaurant. I am not saying anything other than...WV - no toothpicks.... ;) ;D
Note the size relation of the car to these things. And the car is closer, so it appears larger, relationally.

And they made what looks like a sundial with these-

It was a beautiful location. I had not traveled this part of Ohio in any detail. Interstates...sure - but this was anything but an interstate tip once we got into Ohio.

The Mohican River-

A whole heap 'o crazies...

Donna and the Maple-Bacon-Doughnut Queen...(Pam)

Art exercising "quality control" ( snooping' for snacks...)

Area out behind the "cook shack"

I think this were blackberry or raspberry blooms back in that "back 40"

O.K....I even find tree bark interesting.... :D

And...a macro shot...

And then - it did the strangest thing...It got dark!

That sound did not come from me.... :-[

And in the morning...everything seemed to be blooming - or pollinating. Look at Cliff's van...

That guy with the banana is a little scary.... 8)

And a lot scary when facing the other way...

So we elected to take a little tour of the locale

Did I mention we were in Amish Country...DEEP in Amish country?

So...we got hungry - Cliff took us to a real Amish restaurant - with a BUFFET...and...well.....I don't think I am welcome back there during this century ;D

It is all home made...hams, sausage, bacon, etc...

This egg strada was over the top!

Tomato gravy with corn mush...MMM...mmmm....MMM! Corn much is  like cross-bred polenta/grits that are cooked into these little cakes - like hash brown cakes I suppose

SO, we waddled to the truck, and down the road...Did I say it was BEAUTIFUL country???

What do they make a LOT of in Amish Country...? CHEESE!!! So went to Heini's Cheese ( that's right...I said Heini Cheese :o :D )

This is the largest cheese factory/retail establishment I have ever seen...

Where the magic happens....the OTHER magic... :D

PART 2

So - then we went to a little hardware store...It covered 4 or 5 city blocks ;D...And was like an old time general store. They had everything here...

...Even an wintertime Amish school bus  ;) :D

New central heat systems...

Latest technology washers and dryers...

And even Hi-Tech lawn trimming equipment!

Just turn the handle, while you push it, keep it level, and straight..No big deal  huh? ::) ??? ;D

And the clothes dryer that NEVER needs a repairman!

They even sold modern sedans...

And - apparently Pappy has been sand-baggin' on us all. He is a cold drink magnate in Amish country....

More than one flavor - you know how easily bored he is...

AND..to top that - he has an entertainment empire too!

So...we ambled back to the Mohican River Inn for some world class ( no kidding ) BBQ. Old Dave is known in BBQ Competition  for his ribs, and they did not disappoint  - and neither did anything on the plate!

LOOK at the shine on that rib end!

Don's Killer Kimchee!

Dave's Italian Sausage meatloaf...( ...drool...drool...)

Dave's pig shots. A chunk of sausage, ( Italian or Kielbasa..?) wrapped in bacon, and filled with cream cheese, some rub on top. then smoked...MAMMA!!!!

Dave's pork loin with a raspberry sauce.....

And Cliff's Jamaican Jerk Chicken..( I personally thought the chicken was pleasant: A nice personality and great sense of humor...But it was nice and spicy ;) ;D

And it was was Maci approved!

Oh...and Barney approved too...

And once again..."Blazing....fire pit ( you thought I would say Saddles"...but I didn't.... ::) ;D )

Sunday...and it was hard to get moving. Something about food excess, and some nite caps...The place was clean, fresh, comfortable and quiet. Could not ask for nicer folks that own and run the place. And, tho they furnish a continental breakfast...You know this crowd - right?

So..Pam made her world famous Maple Bacon glazed flaky doughnuts...

And Mike (HighonSmoke) is going in for the kill...

He and Art were in full attack mode on those things...not that I was slackin'.... ;)

Cliff's biscuits baked in the Mak 1 Star

And the OMG gravy that Pam made....

Cliff's brown sugar brined and smoke ham...BAM!

Don brought 3 kinds of bacon - ALL top notch

Of course - Dave had to make sure that Cliff and Don were on task...You can't have 2 Ohio boys left alone...MISCHIEF!!!

The choir is assembled on my plate - and getting ready to sing...

Once again - Maci approved!

Don cooked some scrambled eggs after the bacon...man what flavor!

Biscuits and gravy all cozy in there...

Brown sugar ham - THIS is a recipe you nee dot make at home. See Cliff's recipe int eh Charcuterie section

And Don's bacon...oh boy - this stuff was the best!

And Don surprised us with an old fashioned beef bung Bologna. The GOOD stuff like the used to make all across America.....Now - most of us only get Oscar Meyer junk...

Thhhaaaats all folks!

There was a new product being test marketed in WV.  I had not seen it before.  Must be selling, the display was almost empty!

Art

BTW.  I have to replace the carbon air filter in my truck after this trip.  I may send the bill directly to Tee.

Man, I wish I could have been there, but a little horse race in Elmont, NY got in the way. And I also remembered that Jan told me that she would kill me the next time she saw me if her likeness showed up on the last Fall Gathering video. Glad y'all had a great time. Those are some beautiful pictures and a beautiful setting for a great weekend gathering. And some great food, too.

Well..all I can say is that we had a fabulous time.  Me, Donna and my Great grand-daughter Maci. We ate and partied and ate and ate, everything was absolutely wonderful. I didn't even get any pics, but everyone had everything covered. This reunion was a great as the other gatherings.  Mr & Mrs. Smoking Don are so gracious and Old Dave, Jan and Barney are just the absolute best. Cliff is his usual ornery self and his wife is so nice and his kids too. Art or Heart is what Maci calls him, Tee and Mike are their usual fun entertaining selves. A good time was had by all.  Gonna do it again, accomodations were just fine for us, The owners of the Mohican River Inn were so kind and helpful and invited us back. The Food, well ya just had to be there. Small group but we are all better friends now, and that is a good thing. I love everyone there.  Where else can you meet strangers and become such friends. Thanks for the memories everyone.  Pam  .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

I have to echo what everyone else has said about this trip. The only thing that would have been better is if we had
a few more days. This is definitely God's country! Here are some of my photos from the trip. Most of the cooking was covered so
I am adding some different ones.

I thought Black and White worked better on this photo!

I will definitely be going back for next year's Gathering.
