My Favorite Booze
« Reply #-1 on: October 11, 2017, 07:53:33 PM »
I'm not a big drinker. But if you looked inside my liquor cabinet, you'd think I was a booze hound. I'm more of a whiskey guy. Henry McKenna is mighty good either straight or on the rocks. Also like Knob Creek and Knob Creek Smoked Maple Bourbons. I won't turn down Jim Beam or Jack. Woodford Reserve is great, as is Jim Beam Stillhouse Bourbon (only available from their store in Louisville, KY).

I also like Absolut Pear Vodka. Add some tonic water and man, is it ever refreshing.  Not much for scotch or beer. Give me the brown stuff and I am fine.

Bourbon is the bomb (he says while looking at the bottle of Woodford Reserve on the counter).

Around the holidays try and find some Peppermint vodka.  It's hard to find, but it's good stuff for mixing.  Every time I find some one of my daughters seems to make it disappear to their houses.  That's the thing about grown kids, they still cost money  ;D

Fat tire or crown royal on the rocks for me.  Although a good dry martini ( I wave the vermouth in front of my shaker) with olive/onion is great just about any night.

Don't drink anything but a beer once in awhile, but use lots of Tenn whiskey and Kentucky bourbon for cooking

Will say Sparky got me hooked on Fat Tire  :D

As a young man I drank my share of whiskey, & I still keep a pretty good stock in my bar, but I seldom break it out anymore.
Usually just when I have guests who want something more than just a beer. ;) ;)

Also big into bourbon,  and kind of like to collect stuff,  typically have 10-15 different bottles at any given time.
My go to's for would probably be  Willet Pot Still and Blantons.

Also love to make/drink cocktails, used to be mainly whisky cocktails. Love a good Old Fashioned, Manhattan or Sazerac, but now  staring to branch to other spirits and pre-prohibition style cocktails with rum and gin .
Lots of fun to experiment with different recipes.

I wasn't a vodka drinker until I tried the Pear variety. It really is a very refreshing drink. If you like pears...even a little bit, I think you'd enjoy a pear vodka and tonic. Dont know where you live, but in Oregon, you can purchase small "sample" bottles and try a small version. You might want to do that.

For me it's almost always the same thing . . . a Bin Laden . . .

Yes, that's right, two shots (Famous Grouse) and a splash.  I prefer mine on the rocks.

I typically have 4 or 5 those a night.

For straight vodka, I like Tito's Handmade Vodka.   Smooth stuff.  I keep a glass bottle full in the freezer.  Alcohol content is high enough that it will not freeze in a residential freezer.  Makes a great mixer with no need for ice that way.   I've been a fan of the screwdriver since my college days (back when dinosaurs roamed the field still).  Simple, but oh so good.....

We used to keep a bottle of Herradura Anjeo in the freezer for sipping, as well as blue label Smirnoff's. Kinda got away from that after some years. Nowadays we don't drink a lot due to some medications we both take. But if I'm gonna drink a little it's gonna be a Bloody Bull, Macallan 12 yr or Havana Club Anjeo with coke. Occasionally we'll do some Nasty Martinis (like a dirty martini only dirtier)
