Heinz BBQ Sauce
« Reply #-1 on: May 07, 2016, 09:28:38 AM »
I think anyone who watches much TV should have seen the commercial for Heinz’s new BBQ sauces. They teamed up with some famous pit masters to help create the sauces distinct to their area. The flavors are Kansas City, Memphis, Texas and Carolina. The pit masters appear in the commercial, blooper style and funny. Sam Jones from the Skylight Inn family is the pit master for the Carolina style.

I saw this sampler package of the four styles at Walmart for $5.58. The 4 bottles of sauce are 11 oz. each. It’s a way to try all the flavors without buying large bottles and should be enough for some comparison cooking. I will update whenever I get a chance to use these.

I have a dilemma here... being from Pittsburgh, I feel obliged to give it a chance because it is Heinz.  The problem is I really don't like "BBQ" sauce other than to dip chicken nuggets into.

I'm kinda like SB in that I generally don't use bbq sauce on my grilled/smoked meats. Personal preference is all. To me most commercial bbq sauces taste like glorified catsup and brown sugar. There are very few types that i actually enjoy. But when i find a good one I serve it warmed on the table. So if they get a good review I may give it a whirl. Waiting to see and hear your reviews Don!

I'll be watching, too.  There are several major brand commercial sauces that are good and several that miss the mark by a long way.  One big problem is so many of them overdo it with liquid smoke.  A little goes a long, long way and oven just covers up the natural smokiness of the meat.

Wendy loves BBQ sauce and I use it from time to time when I mess something up on the pit  ;)

As a Steeler fan, I am looking forward to Don's findings on these Heinz offerings.......

Will be watching for your opinion Don.

The number 1 selling BBQ sauce is still Kraft I believe. Big market with lots of choices. I like Chris and Pitts myself or KC Masterpiece.
