ThermoPro vs Maverick vs iGrill
« Reply #-1 on: January 23, 2017, 09:50:30 PM »
I realize this is not a question about the PBC but I'm looking for advice/experiences of PBC owners :). I've searched the forum and the discussion usually comes down to Maverick vs iGrill, range vs graphing capabilities, etc. But what about the ThermoPro?  ThermoPro TP20 Wireless Remote Digital Cooking Food Meat Thermometer with Dual Probe for Smoker Grill Oven BBQ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GE77QT0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_TaSHybT0E9A75. Has awesome reviews on Amazon. Anyone have one of these that can share their experience?

Also, because of the amount of meat you can cook in the PBC at the same time, does anyone with a 2 probe unit wish they would've gone with a 4 probe unit?  Thanks in advance!

If I only need one probe for the Pit and one for the Meat or two for meat and no WiFi than ThermoPro is the way to go.
Must easier to use with better connectivity.

Temperature monitors to a BBQer is like holsters to weapons man in that all have a drawer full of them. ;D

If I need more probes I hook up my Rock's Stoker.

If I did not use the Rock's Stoker to control the smoker and only monitor the cooker with WiFi I would go with the Tappecue V2.0 4 Probe at $199.00.

I received the ThermoWorks Smoke dual probe for Christmas and it works great for my needs.  It supports 2 probes and comes with a pit probe and a meat probe.  Other probes are available.  It has a wireless receiver with alarms for both probes.  If 2 probes will do it for you, check it out at Thermoworks.com.

I have no affiliation with any BBQ equipment supplier.

I also have a ThermoWorks Smoke for my PBC,  have used it a few times and seems to work great!!
When I ordered I got myself  some extra probes, if I need to have two separate probes in meat I can.

Once you get the PBC up to temp its not like you are making adjustments to maintain the heat, so do you need to use a probe in the pit all the time??

Or  I can just run all the wires and  plug in what  I want in the unit to get the temps I want at that time.

That's the theory at least, so far have just used with one probe in the meat and one in the pit.   ;)

I have that ThermoPro. It works well.

I have used a meat probe from an old thermometer in the second input when I had multiple pieces of meat--I don't monitor PBC pit temps.

Using the preset alarms and all was a bit of a pain, though. So I just leave them off and keep a lazy eye on meat temps.

Don't have the thermo pro but I do have the I grill, it uses Bluetooth which doesn't have good range 20'-30' max and it  sometimes struggles with that. Whatever you choose don't get one with Bluetooth.

Thermoworks smoke! 2 year warranty!

X5! Started with a Maverick that crapped out a while back and thought it was ok, but picked up the Thermoworks smoke to replace it and it's far better. Much faster to show temp changes, much easier to program, better probes, better constructions, etc. Only thing I wish it had was a kick stand for the remote monitor, but all it's other attributes more than make up for the one minor nit pick. Buy quality, buy once!

I've been using the Maverick ET-7 for at least 10 years. It has some quirks, but has turned out GREAT food and is very precise and ruggged.

I have a maverick and it works great but kind of a pain to set up the remote and alarms. Really like what I see about the smoke. Looks more user friendly. Was really interested in the meater wireless probes but they are still not available.
