First cook on the RecTec
« Reply #-1 on: May 20, 2017, 09:07:05 PM »
Finally got the RecTec together. They said you should do it with 2 people because it is heavy. I did it alone and don't think it was that heavy. Where I could have used a second pair of hands (or at least one more) for was putting the nuts and bolts in some of the "hidden" places.
I ordered some larger wheels from Harbor Freight as I wanted the grill to be a little higher. With the new wheels the height is perfect for me. Problem was that the wheels didn't arrive by Thursday when the grill came. I didn't want to put it together with the old wheels and have to replace with the new ones later. They were supposed to come yesterday but didn't. Finally last night I went to the local Harbor Freight and bought some (should have just done it in the first place.) Finished putting the thing together this morning, ran it for an hour @ 400* and was ready to go.

Here it is all put together with the new wheels. I also put the shelf in upside down so it would have a lip to keep things from falling off. (Notice the nice sunny day)

Started the first cook of beef ribs, roasted potatoes, corn on the cob, and some onions and peppers. (Made the beans in the oven).

By the time the food was done, a thunderstorm rolled in. I guess it is a way to find out if it works in the rain. (It does).

Got wet getting the food but it was worth it.

After my first pellet cook, I have to say I enjoyed this cook.
Why couldn't Noah have swatted the 2 mosquitoes?.

Great first cook. Everything looks great. Be careful if your hopper is full if you move the Rec Tec around. When I was product testing one, I had it almost tip on me when moving it too quickly...................
