Turkey Trial Run and new memeber
« Reply #-1 on: November 11, 2014, 09:48:52 AM »
Hi All -

I have been a lurker for awhile but figured it was time I start posting some!

Did a trial turkey run on the PBC for a friendsgiving we are hosing on Saturday. It will be the first time I have actually cooked a whole turkey so I wanted to do a trial run to make sure it turned out okay on the PBC.

Results were awesome, it was very juicy and flavorful. It was a smaller bird (11lbs) and it took about 2.5 hours for it to reach 165 in all parts. Dark meat was right at 165 and white was about 170. And of course here is a pic!

Welcome from a NC PBC owner.  Great looking bird.  I have been debating which "toy" to cook on for Thanksgiving.  You just helped me make up my mind.

Once again...a brand new member brings some great looking food - and spurs new ideas! I may have to PBC my turkey this year too!

Thank for poking' me in the cerebellum! ;D

My wife was very skeptical this thing would turn out and her response was, "wow, I hope you remember exactly what rubs you used and how you did this because it is awesome!"

I had a fresh turkey and rubbed it with olive oil and a mixture of a few rubs I had sitting around. For this weekend I am going to get the turkey on Friday and do the prep work of getting it ready Friday so it can sit overnight with the rub on.

Welcome from SE Georgia! Fantastic looking bird! IF I had a PBC that is what I would be cooking
my turkey on this year. I would get into some big trouble with SWMBO if another cooker shows
up on our patio!  ;) BUT, knowing me as some of ya do that hasn't stopped me before!  8)
