Christmas Candy Cane Cookies
« Reply #-1 on: December 03, 2014, 01:07:25 PM »
Just made up a batch of what we call Joe Joe’s.  They are made from either Trader Joe’s Candy Cane Joe Joe’s or Aldie’s Benton Candy Cane Cookies.  Easy to do, and they go quickly.  When my wife saw the ones I made, her first comment was, “You are making more, right?”  What do you think?

I used some Wilton Candy Cane Melts for the coating.  I added some crushed candy canes to the top of each ball.

Here is the recipe I used.

Oreo Cookie Balls using Trader Joe's Candy Cane Joe-Joe's

Recipe By: Margaret Wiesemann’s adaptation of the Oreo Cookie Balls Recipe
Yield: 36

Ingredients:

1 package Oreo cookies, regular sized, crushed
8 ounces cream cheese
1 package Wilton white candy melts
1 package Wilton dark or milk chocolate melts

Directions:

1. Using a blender, mix Oreos and softened cream cheese together.

2. Refrigerate the mixture for about 20 minutes.

3. Using a small scoop, ssoop out small balls and place them on a cookie sheet covered with wax paper.

4. Refrigerate the balls for about 20 minutes before coating.

5. Melt the white candy melts in a double boiler.

6. Stick a toothpick in an Oreo ball and dip it in the melted white candy coating.  Place on waxed paper and allow to harden.  Refrigerate again for a few minutes to help set up the coating.

7. While waiting, melt about 1/3 of the package of chocolate melts.

8. When Oreo balls are no longer sticky to the touch, decorate with drizzles of chocolate candy.  I use a squeeze bottle for this step.

Notes:

Substitute Trader Joe’s Candy Cane Joe Joe’s for the Oreos for a “Christmas Theme”.  Sprinkle crushed candy cane over the dipped coating while still sticky.

Those look great.  I don't like full candy canes.  That would be just the right amount of peppermint for me.

Love cookie balls!

My wife is gearing up for holiday baking. It becomes a dangerous place around my house for those watching their weight :o
