Been a long time since I mixed up a batch of that rub.

It is good stuff.

Jan's Original Dry Rub was developed by Larry's wife Jan. Larry is better known as KyNola on this and other forums. Here in Larry's words is how Jan developed her original dry rub ...

" My friend has a commercial BBQ restaurant and gave me some of his rub. He would not however give me his recipe so I put my wife on a mission to find something very similar on the internet and then we would tweak it to match his. Here is the best effort. It only has 14 ingredients and makes a bunch "

I edited the title of this post to include "Original" because Larry informed me a few months ago that there are now a few rubs out there using the name Jan's Dry Rub!

Ingredients:

•1 cup + 4 tbsp sugar
•1/4 cup Lawry’s seasoned salt
•1/4 cup garlic salt
•1/4 cup + 1 1/2 tsp celery salt
•1/4 cup onion salt
•1/2 cup paprika
•3 Tbsp chili powder
•2 Tbsp black pepper
•1 Tbsp lemon pepper
•2 tsp celery seed
•2 tsp dry ground sage
•1 tsp dry mustard
•1/2 tsp dry ground thyme
•1/2 tsp cayenne

Made a batch up about a month ago. We use it on everything to varying degrees. It's a great basic formula which you can add heat to if needed and it still keeps a similar flavor. I have eased up on the salt tho.

I substituted powder for both the garlic and onion salts, and added 2 - 3 tsp ground celery seed in place of celery salt.
I'm not a big fan of salty rubs, but after doing a bit of substituting this rub is great!

Good, might just be your go to rub!

It's been my go to rub for poultry and pork for years now Tommy.

Even though I'm always trying and using all sorts of rubs and seasonings - I always come back to Jan's rub! ... Doesn't mean I'll stop trying other rubs, seasonings and recipes that I developed for my upcoming cookbook it's just that Jan's Original Dry Rub holds a dear spot in my taste buds.

No didn't mean you will stop using others.  Heck I use Bad Byron's on my butts in infrared because I know how it will turn out every time and when cooking a bunch for church I need consistency in my cooks

There's no issues here at all Tommy ... I didn't mean to infer anything in my reply. It's all good!!! I fully agree with using something that you're sure will give you the results you're looking for in a cook ...  :)  :)

Yeap.  I do the same thing.  The original is very salty for me.
