Came home to shrimp
« Reply #-1 on: August 14, 2016, 09:30:19 AM »
My yearly trip to Colorado Springs got interesting or a llongggggg anyway.
If I go alone I tend to go a few days early so I can get some fishing in... This trip however had two major changes and I had to pick days closer to the actual event.
I left out of Pensacoela at 2:30 Monday afternoon on Delta.....  We sat on the runway and hour and watched my flight out leave because we couldn't get to the gate. They rebooked me to a flight a few hours later... That turned into 7 hour wait to see the flight canceled and the airport literally fill up with people as Dellta just kept bringing in more and more people...
I decided to drive back home, except there were no rental cars left, no rooms available for 25 miles and not a taxi in site....
With my phone dieing I called my office at 3 AM (we are there 24/7), I ask that they find me a flight out of Atlanta on any plane to anywhere! Quick!
Only flight to be found was 7 :58PM , another 16 hours!!!!
She kept searching and somehow found a flight out to (believe it or not) Colorado Springs on United.
Turns out people started canceling their flights as they watched the news and opens up some seats.
So I landed in COS 26.5 hours into my trip.
I stayed at a very nice resort that could not cook meat properly.... I did noteven know you could get baby back ribs that dry and tough... And the breakfast sausage resembled flavored cardboard....
I left out out early and had a normal flight home... 4.5 hours...
My brother in law Marc made shrimp for me when I got in.  The deep gulf shrimp are in now and the taste with their natural saltiness can't be beat.

View from the bar at Cheyenne Mountian Resort...
And this is the very short version of this story ;) :)

Anymore we fly only if it is too far to drive.  I hate going through airport security.  The long lines, the long wait times and irritated people just get to me.  That is part of the reason we drove to Reno, NV. The other reason we drove is to see more sights as we drive.

Enough about my travels, for now.

The shrimp looks fabulous.  I'd love to have a plate for dinner today.

So what happened that caused such a delay in flights?

The shrimp look like a great welcome back at least! :)

was that the day Delta had all the problems with their computer systems, or was it just a bad day for them in general?
I hate it when that happens...

Gotta love the brother-in-law!

It was the day Delta crashed and burned. I was stuck in Atlanta airport for 16 hours. No rental cars , no way out!!! There were not even any taxi's ! There were thousands of folks stuck there.

Those shrimp look delicious and I am sure it helped ease the pain. I feel your pain.  Back when I traveled a lot with the phone company I averaged 2 plane trips a week, sometimes more. I had 167,000 miles on just one of my frequent flier cards in 2 years. I could write a book of the horror stories. One time I was on a flight and the pilots got confused and flew us into the wrong airport.
