Smoked and Sweet 'N Savory Nuts for gifts
« Reply #-1 on: December 19, 2017, 01:58:07 PM »
If you’re searching for a flavorful gift to give this year, look no further than your MAK Grill to produce some smoked roasted nuts!  The whole process takes less than four hours and the results will be delicious and much appreciated by the recipients.
Smoked or Sweet ‘N Savory Nuts
Approximate cooking time 3 hours
Makes 4 cups

Ingredients:
4 cups raw shelled nuts (almonds, pecans, walnuts, hazelnuts, etc.)
½ cup water
¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp. sea salt

Preparation:
In a bowl combine the water, Worcestershire sauce and nuts. Make sure nuts are thoroughly submerged. Soak for no more than (10) ten minutes. Drain the nuts and leave in the bowl. Add salt and toss the nuts so that they are thoroughly coated. Place the nuts in a single layer on a cookie sheet.
Optional: For sweet nuts: replace the salt with 2tsp. cinnamon with ¾ cup white sugar.
Smoking/Cooking:
Start your MAK and leave in Smoke mode. Place nuts inside main cooking chamber or Warmer/Smoker box. (If you have a FlameZone, leave the covers on). Smoke the nuts for 1.5 hours, turning over once halfway through the smoke session. Then, increase grill temperature to 250F for 1.5 hours, turning the nuts over once halfway through the roasting process.
Once smoked and roasted, remove the nuts and allow to cool. When complete, put the nuts into a decorative container. Add a bow and gift tag, and there you go!
The nuts should be stored in an air tight container. Shelf life is one to two weeks. Or you can refrigerate for up a month.
