Chili-Cheese Dogs - Carolina Style!

This one's for Art, Hub, TeeSquare and...   Me, as a reminder of my days of living in good ol' N.C.!

Ok, I hardly ever get to eat hot dogs anymore because of food allergies. There's one brand I can get locally and they're not cheap ($7 8-pack), so when I do them I want to do them up right!

What's my favorite way? Well if you spend any time in North Carolina, go into a place and order a hot dog "All the Way" and you're going to get mustard, chili, onions & slaw. I love 'em that way!

The fixings...

The MAK Griddle's ready... in goes some Ground Chuck, minced onion, chili powder & Little Louie's Seasoned Garlic Salt.

All browned. Stir in some Tomato Paste & water. Add the dogs.

Buns warming in some foil. Almost done...

I'll take two hot dogs All the Way, add cheese please!

A little mustard, Onion... Chili, Cheese...

Top with some slaw & maybe a splash of hot sauce. HEAVEN ON A BUN!!!

What better to wash it down than a classic Cherry Cola?

Good simple food, great memories, a gorgeous day to eat outside with the family...

Life is good!

The hot dawgs look great..we don't do the slaw here in Ohio, and for the chili sauce..I do the hamburger and mix it with refried beans, red onions, etc. It's all good. Pam .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Yep, hotdog toppings are like BBQ; every region has their faves.

You see a few places around that offer slaw dogs, but it's definitely not a common topping here & I sure didn't grow up eating them that way. It was definitely something I picked up while living in N.C. that stuck... but I don't mind!  ;D

It's like eating cole slaw on pulled pork..they think I'm nuts till they try it..I love the crunch and have been eating it that way since I lived in Florida and had my 1st pulled pork. I can learn new ways.  Pam  .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Cliff,
Do you serve lots of paper towels with your hot dogs?  I need one now, and I am not even eating one.  Looking really good.

Thanks for a GREAT post -- those look scrumptious ;D

Hub

BTW I'm a displaced southwesterner and like some others I've "adapted" to the Carolina slaw thing.  I like it on a hotdog and I like it with pulled pork but I'll admit I do get testy when they grind it up and "pre-chew" it for me at some places.  I want it to CRUNCH and have body/texture and flavor, not be pap or baby food :(
