Another round of Bacon / Food Slicer ideas
« Reply #-1 on: December 02, 2016, 05:34:57 PM »
Did another round of hickory smoked bacon.  Real easy and delicious.  Only problem is slicing the finished slab.  Even using an electric knife the slices are too thick.  Was thinking about getting a food slicer but Nana Smokin said no more toys.  Anyway I was wondering if any of you have a food/meat slicer and how you utilize this.  I've always wanted to smoke a top round and make Arby's type sandwiches but without a slicer, it would be difficult to do

Day-um that looks good...is that crushed black pepper on the otuside?..an electric knife helps , but ya can't beat a slicer..only use mine very seldom, but handy when ya need it.  Buy momma something sparkly or smelly for xmas and maybe she will let you have one.     .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.

Hey nice lookin' bacon....again!
From your avatar it looks like your little one is growing fast! :)
As for the slicer, I finally bought one last year. A Chef's Choice 615. Very happy with it. And i use it at least once a month. When i find meat sales, I grill/smoke more, ex. turkey breasts, and beef roasts. They get sliced up for meals now and put in freezer for meals later. Mrs H gave me a look when I brought up buying one....but she is glad we did now. I would bet if you got a slicer, you would make more bacon! :D Who would argue about that? ;)

Steve, the bacon looks fantastic!

I think the best move I ever made (as far as a slicer goes) was to save up a couple hundred dollars, and buy a used 12" commercial slicer.  It was well worth every penny.

Your bacon looks fantastic.  I personally like thicker sliced bacon, so your slices would work fine for me.  Having said that, I have a Chef's Choice model 632.  It becomes a necessary tool when I start making pastrami or brisket.  Those I like sliced deli-thin.  There are some good sales around Christmas time.  Whenever my wife wants to know what to buy me for Christmas I usually have another cooking tool on my list.  I have already managed to have her buy me an Instant Pot pressure cooker from Black Friday on Amazon.  I have already used it once, too.

Good luck!

Thanks to all the comments.  That little guy in the Avatar is my grandson who is fond of BBQ so I hope he will one day take over the duties.  In a few months I have my big 65 B'day so when asked what I want, a food slicer will be on top of the list. I am going to review some of the suggestions here to narrow it down.

First and most important things first:
That is a fine looking grandson you have there. Now, keep him close and teach him about all things good on the cookers...
And NICE bacon!!! :D
I watch Craigslist for used items - and like rester, I found an old Hobart commercial machine for really cheap. They are big, bulky and heavy but you will probably never ;) need a another one. If space and weight are a concern - ACW3's unit works well...I have watched him use that one. Cabala's is always running sales. Don't forget about their Bargain Cave!
