CrayCort 18.5" Cast Iron Grate?
« Reply #-1 on: February 22, 2015, 07:19:00 AM »
This may have been asked, I did try to search.

Are there opinions on using the CrayCort 18.5" Cast Iron grate in the PBC?  I don't think it would work so well given the three point structure of it.  The supporting structure I think is meant to be left in place and looks like it would interfere with hanging.  I was looking at them for my Weber and noticed they had the 18.5" for weber coal grills.

Heavy wide bar cast iron grates provide two main advantages, they sear better & support small and fragile items allowing them to be cooked directly on the grate.
In a smoker not really any advantage so I'd not recommend the spending of the money.

What he said..... ;)

But....I have GrillGrates in my Weber gasser - because I was tired of dealing with the rusting of the cast iron grates that came in my Weber.
The additional heat...anf the speed at which it heats up are phenomenal. Check out GrillGrates for your Weber.

You would be amazed at the benefits. I can run my gasser on low - and sear steaks. And - I never have to scrape GrillGrates, just turn up the burners for a while after the cook. Turns the mess to ash. And -....they never rust. ;D

You are spot on about grill grates, I was kinda thinking the risk/reward factor of the CrayCort grills would not warrant the price they want for them. In a Kettle those are real nice grates....... :)
